Colorado is riding a wave of momentum in the tech industry, with a $40.5 million federal grant propelling the Mountain West's quantum sector to new heights. Awarded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to Elevate Quantum, a consortium of over 70 entities, this funding highlights Colorado's pivotal role in leading global quantum research. Zachary Yerushalmi, CEO of Elevate Quantum, noted that more than half of the grant will fund Colorado projects, including a new lab and fabrication facility. This investment unlocks up to $127 million in additional federal and state funding, fostering rapid advancements and job creation. The lab, expected to be operational within 12 to 18 months, aims to make critical quantum equipment accessible at lower costs, similar to Amazon Web Services' impact on startups. Additionally, $13.5 million will go towards workforce development, addressing the demand for skilled professionals and creating over 10,000 quantum-related jobs by 2030. Governor Jared Polis affirmed Colorado's leadership in quantum technology, with the state's thriving ecosystem including companies like Atom Computing, Infleqtion, Maybell Quantum, Quantinuum, and Vescent poised to benefit.
