“The demand is exceeding the industry's capabilities right now,” Greg Manning said. “So that's a great proposition for workers or folks who want to come and work in this industry.” Green skills don’t just include hard skills like engineering, construction and technical know-how. They include a variety of knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes necessary to develop a sustainable economy, like operations management and monitoring. For solar developers and financiers like DSD, green skills are required in legal and financial roles to create contracts and ensure profitability, Manning said. DSD had the pleasure of serving as the Host Developer for the GridTECH Connect Forum in Newport Beach, CA. Our Chief Commercial Officer, Eric Pollock, Senior Manager of Commercial Sales, Steve Wood, and Program Manager, Robert Wright, spoke of the crucial challenges of interconnection from distributed energy resources to utility-scale, the latest changes and developments and the viability of community solar happening in California, and of new technologies and strategies to improve interconnection timelines, reduce costs, and enable more solar in the state. Check out some key takeaways from the conference: ✔️The interconnection obstacles of time and cost in California have become one of the largest obstacles to deploying solar energy resources. Over the past 3-5 years the timelines and cost have increased to the point where several areas of the states are becoming potentially off-limits to solar deployment due to the timeline and cost of interconnecting to the utility distribution grids and system operator grids. ✔️Rule-making proceedings for the Community Renewable Energy program may result in some favorable developments. The expectation is that there will need to be a new legislative effort to produce a stronger program that will withstand pushback from the Public Utilities Commission ✔️There is some optimism about new support for the Net Value Biling Tarriff (NVBT) that emerged this year, and a push for legislative action is likely We are excited to have had a hand in discussing this important topic for our industry so we can collectively improve and advance the renewable energy transition together.

“The new tariffs add the threat of volatility to module price and supply, which could be counter to the task of building out our domestic supply chain. That said, proper planning can mitigate that risk of volatility. While this may be a temporary headwind, the momentum of renewables is still very favorable.” Carl Newton
We asked a panel of experts how new tariffs (and the threat of more) have impacted their development / procurement strategies. Check out the story to see what they had to say. Our panel includes: >Adam Bernardi at Burns & McDonnell >Carl Newton at DSD Renewables >Boris Schubert at Silicon Ranch Corporation >David Carpenter at Green Lantern Solar https://lnkd.in/geWN3NA9

This #rooftop solar installation is one of the 98 stores where DSD has delivered an immediate impact in The Home Depot's operation. The #cleanenergy produced from one single rooftop solar installation is the equivalent of removing 95 gas-powered cars from the road annually. Pennsylvania electricity prices are above the national average. With these high costs, the opportunity for savings from solar projects is also high. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court gave business owners the right to benefit from net energy metering (NEM) regardless of the amount of their onsite power usage. This enables a broader universe of potential solar projects in Pennsylvania to be feasible for commercial properties. In our latest Energy Insights, Dan Smith, VP of Markets, explains how NEM in Pennsylvania (as well as other incentives, such as grants, tax credits, Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SRECs) and rebates) can be a very advantageous path for organizations to leverage solar lease opportunities and generate a new source of revenue while contributing to their sustainability goals.

Net metering provides a powerful solution to several fundamental questions about commercial solar. Here is how it works: When solar power equipment is installed, you’re connected to the power grid. When the solar panels produce more energy than is needed onsite, the excess electricity is sent back to the grid — and you receive a credit for it from the utility. Then, when the solar panels are producing less than what’s needed, you draw power from the grid and get charged against the credits already accumulated. Read more⤵️
