We're a network of consultants doing work at the vital intersection of graphics and displays. Join the conversation as we narrate what we learn as we bring together these 2 communities and traditions. #displaytechnology #gamedevelopment #gamedesign #hdrimaging #displayadaptive
Display-Adaptive
Computer Games
Network of consultants that do applied research and evangelism at the intersection of computer graphics and display tech
About us
The network's vision for the near-future of great display-mediated entertainment experiences (e.g. PC and console gaming) is one where gaming devs-designers and publishers collaborate with display companies (and other hardware companies) to simultaneously optimize games, displays, and other hardware for one another, especially for HDR. We do applied research and build software tools that make that simultaneous optimization practical and broker secure sharing of HDR gameplay and HDR display simulations.

Split-Aperture 2-in-1 Cameras at #SIGGRAPH2024 for single-shot HDR, hyperspectral, and depth imaging! By splitting the camera aperture and using a dual-pixel sensor, we show that it is possible to capture an optically coded and conventional image simultaneously without increasing the camera size! This makes the conditional reconstruction problem so much easier! This Wednesday at ACM SIGGRAPH, Rafał Mantiuk presents ColorVideoVDP: the 1st fully spatiotemporal color-aware metric. Our metric models display geometry & photometry, produces outputs in interpretable just-objectionable-difference units and runs fast. See our project page: https://lnkd.in/grKzeg2n Work done with: Rafał Mantiuk, Param Hanji, Maliha Ashraf, Yuta Asano, and Alexandre Chapiro in collaboration between Applied Perception Science and Image Quality at Meta and University of Cambridge.

In the first talk session of #SIGGRAPH2024, there will be 2 talks from our group. First, @Arjun Madhusudan will talk about a rocket league tournament-experiment (#expournament?) we ran last year, then I'll give a talk on the effects of varying frame rates on FPS aiming

Revolutionizing Display Technology with Panasonic's Silky Fine Mist 🌫️🖥️ Panasonic unveiled an innovative display solution that uses Silky Fine Mist to create screens that make images appear as if floating in air. This pneumatic approach generates fine mist particles in large quantities, enhancing the clarity and sharpness of projected images. Unlike ultrasonic methods, this technology uses compressed air, allowing the screen to quickly reshape even when interrupted by objects or people moving through it. Ideal for TV, movies, advertising, and live events, this technology opens new horizons in immersive display experiences. While we presented offline RL for behavior simulation on Tuesday, today, my group is presenting neural exposure fusion at #CVPR - at the very beginning of the robotics stack. We find that end-to-end learning can drastically improve HDR fusion, which is typically considered frozen in the camera processing. Check out the work with Maximilian Bömer, Emmanuel Onzon, and Fahim Mannan this afternoon. Project: https://lnkd.in/emrfqDMQ

Congrats to Alexandre Chapiro and collaborators on the award for this upcoming SIGGRAPH 2024 research: "In this work we explored several perceptual algorithms (PEAs) for power optimization of displays (PODs). Different methods may introduce alterations of different types, and save more or less power depending on the display technology. We compare like-to-like in a user study, obtaining interpretable results for perceptually subtle breakpoints on how much display power can be saved across a wide range of technologies: LCD, OLED, with or without eye tracking, and more." #siggraph2024 #DisplayPower #VisualPerception #XR #DisplayTech
