We are thrilled to announce the completion of the latest phase of the James River Crossing (JRX) design-build project! Our firm and Garney Construction have been collaborating on the project since 2020; planning, designing, permitting, and constructing the new large diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) force main under the James River. The new force main will convey wastewater across the James River from Newport News to Suffolk, Virginia. This project supports Hampton Roads Sanitation District’s (HRSD) Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT) program, reducing nutrient loading to the Chesapeake Bay, replenishing the Potomac Aquifer, and combating sea level rise through reduction of ground subsidence throughout the region. Our Fairfax, Virginia, headquarters office was excited to host the STEMSkills program this summer, which offers local students an opportunity to learn STEM-related business skills. We had several departments conduct activities with the students, including our human resources team, transportation engineers, resilience solutions professionals, and architects. The students learned everything from how to interview for a job, to what goes into designing a structure, and how we keep our communities safe from floods. We also provided each student with a professional headshot photo to prepare them to enter the workforce. We look forward to seeing these students grow into their careers and thank them for visiting us this summer! #DewberryCares #STEM #engineering #architecture #resilience
