With over eleven years with the County, Nancy's journey is marked by personal and professional growth deeply rooted in her commitment to serving her community. Born and raised in San Francisco, Nancy spent a significant part of her life in the city before moving out of state for fifteen years. Upon her return to San Mateo County, she faced numerous personal challenges that led her to become a client of the county's behavioral health services. This transformative period in her life ignited her passion for giving back, leading her to engage with various county initiatives and commissions, including the Commission for Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Nancy's career trajectory in public health began with roles in Total Wellness and as a county contractor, eventually joining public health as a Case Management Assessment Specialist. Her dedication and hard work saw her quickly promoted to Social Work Supervisor. Nancy's inspiration to work for the County stems from her own experiences as a client. She recognized the importance of consumer voices in driving change and dedicated herself to participating in leadership meetings to advocate for improvements in service delivery. Nancy's leadership philosophy centers on an open-door policy and the belief that no idea is a bad idea. She values organic development within structured processes and procedures, allowing flexibility and encouraging input from her team. Nancy is particularly enthusiastic about the LEAP (Lean, Engage, Aspire, Perfect) methodology, having seen its benefits firsthand. To overcome challenges, Nancy relies on meditation and a strong spiritual connection, coupled with the support of her colleagues and leadership. This approach helps her manage stress and maintain a positive outlook. She values the County's commitment to community safety and autonomy, understanding the delicate balance required in ensuring the welfare of clients. Nancy's personal interests include yoga, hiking, and spending time with her two pit bulls, Lucy and Ethel.
