Save a Life. Right Here. Right Now.
About us
Fifty years ago, a group of Kansas City area physicians, hospital and civic leaders became the first architects of today's Community Blood Center. Their single-minded vision was to save lives by serving the needs of patients in this community. Today, Community Blood Center meets that goal and offers many other services. Our Mission is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components to meet the transfusion needs of patients in our community. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, Community Blood Center is an active participant member with America's Blood Centers (ABC). ABC is the nation's largest network of not-for-profit, independent community blood centers that collect over 50 percent of the nation's blood supply at more than 600 blood collection centers. ABC members are licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and maintain the highest levels of quality control to ensure the safest and most dependable blood supply for the communities they serve.

Last month at the KC Chairpersons' Recognition Luncheon, Community Blood Center celebrated Drive Chairpersons and Platelet Donors going above and beyond to support blood and platelet donation in Kansas City. The "You Mean the World to Us" awards were presented to 14 community organizations for their outstanding commitment and achievements in hosting successful blood drives. Meanwhile, top platelet donors, ranging from 200-599+ lifetime donations were honored for their incredible lifesaving efforts. The efforts and commitment of everyone in attendance have been instrumental in recovering the blood supply from COVID, recruiting first-time donors, and ultimately, saving lives. Please join us in honoring these outstanding individuals and groups who embody the true spirit of service and community! #BloodDonation #VolunteerKC #CommunityPartnership

Our very own CBC Receptionist, Matilda Seskis, successfully encouraged her family (husband Brian, father-in-law Matt, and mother-in-law Lilly!) to stop in the #Gladstone Center last weekend to donate. The only thing better than a family day is a family day spent saving lives! Thank you, Seskis family! 👨👩👦

KC #Pride—You were incredible! 🏳️🌈 Our CBC team attended the 2024 Pride Fest to share exciting updates about the new blood donor screening process based on Individual Donor Assessment, which makes it easier for LGBTQ+ donors to give. Thank you for your warm welcome, and we hope to see you all in a center soon! 🫶

Last month, Community Blood Center was happy to honor the 2024 Northland Charity Drive winners. These two charities brought in the most donors and their winnings will go towards the operations of both respective charities. The 1st place winners , minister alongside churches in Haiti to provide tuition money and hot lunches for Haitian children. Our 2nd place winner, provides healthy, meals and pantry items foods to K-12 students and families in Kansas City’s Northland communities. Congratulations to everyone on a successful drive, and an extra thanks to iWerx, an Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Development Center for hosting this special event! We'll see you all next year! 👋
