We are pleased to present, as part of our July Attorney Spotlight, Fort Lauderdale West Partner Susette Gruebele: I am a partner in CSK's Fort Lauderdale West office and have been with CSK for over a decade (since 2014). I am a trial attorney with a heavy focus on aggressively defending all types of fraudulent insurance claims. My favorite thing about CSK is that it provides an environment that fosters growth both personally and professionally. Rewarding hard work and work ethic. Encouraging a collaborative environment at all levels from Partners to Support Staff. I am a South Florida native born in Miami, Florida. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Florida International University (before it had a Football Team, go Panthers). Just a week after my 21st birthday, I began law school at Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University, graduating and sitting for the bar at only 23 years old. While I always thought I would end up in criminal law, the universe had a different plan. Due to entering the work force during the 2008 economic crisis, I was met with hiring freezes at the start of my career. This propelled me into the civil world and specifically, Insurance Defense with a focus on Insurance Fraud. I never looked back. In addition to being extremely passionate about my career, I am married to my wonderful husband and best friend Jeff. We have been blessed with two amazing children, Louria (6) and Jeffrey Jr (1) and our dog Benz (11). We've always enjoyed traveling but we enjoy it even more now because we get to make lasting memories with the kids. Tampa Associate Sasha Pandolfo and Orlando Partner Ryan Sawyer recently obtained a great result in an at fault UBER case in which the plaintiff alleged over approximately $85,000 in past medical expenses, and $595,000 in future medicals and pain and suffering. The client had previously offered $350,000 to resolve the matter and Plaintiff's counsel decided that it was not nearly enough. Plaintiff's counsel asked the jury for over $1.7 million. Sasha and Ryan were able to show that Plaintiff was less than truthful with her treating doctors and that this accident only led to a short term issue which had been treated and resolved. The jury awarded $96,000 in past medicals (less than the number we suggested) and no permanency. Miami Partners George Hooker and Robert Guinn recently secured a complete defense verdict in a Tropical Storm Eta claim. Plaintiffs claimed their home was damaged by the storm, but our client denied the claim saying there was no wind damage and the visible damage was caused by wear and tear. Following three days of trial, the jury received the case. They requested a playback of our expert's testimony. The jury then indicated they were deadlocked and an Allen charge was given.After a subsequent read back, the jury was out another fifteen minutes before returning a complete defense verdict. Tampa Partner Brian Rubenstein and Associate Arthur Jones recently obtained a complete defense verdict in Federal Court in Orlando.  The trial involved a full-time tenured faculty member who worked 25 years for our client, a major Florida university. Plaintiff claimed she was discriminated against and denied a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA") based on her disability of chronic back pain that prevented her from being able to drive to campus, walk around campus, climb stairs to classroom, and sit or stand in classroom for prolonged periods of time. The University's defense was that on campus presence and office hours is an essential function of a full-time tenured faculty member's job position at our client's University. Pensacola partner Michael Kelly and Associate Kayla Ryan recently secured a complete defense verdict following a bench trial in Okaloosa County surrounding a commercial easement dispute.   Plaintiffs sought injunctive relief and claimed they had the right to prevent Defendants from operating a restaurant on a beach parcel. Following two days of heated trial, the Court asked all parties to submit written closings. Following the conclusion of the evidence and submission of written closings, the Court considered the arguments and issues for nearly two months. The Court has now entered judgment in favor of Defendants on all issues; most specifically, finding that the commercial easement did not apply to the restaurant. Fort Lauderdale West Partner Michael Rosenberg has had a string of recent appellate victories. In the first case, he obtained a written opinion from the Fifth District Court of Appeal affirming the trial court's final judgment determining that a PIP insurer properly paid a medical provider for services rendered after an automobile accident. The Fifth District soundly rejected each of the medical provider's arguments raised on appeal. In the second case, he received a per curiam affirmance with citations in favor of a Florida PIP insurer against a medical provider. In the third case, he obtained a per curiam affirmance in favor of a Florida PIP insurer against a medical provider. In the final case, re obtained an opinion from the Fifth District Court of Appeal reversing a trial court's final judgment in favor of a medical provider with instructions to the trial court to enter judgment in favor of CSK's client, a Florida PIP insurer.
