The City of Charlotte is proud to support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 34th Anniversary. On July 26, we celebrate this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Celebrate with us by learning more about the ADA at adata.org/learn-about-ada. You can also visit cltgov.me/adaprogram to learn more about how we implement the ADA at the city level or reach out to charlotteada@charlottenc.gov with questions. Photo: President George H.W. This #ADAPrideMonth, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center (CMGC) is undergoing important renovations to its most public space: the Meeting Chamber. “The project initiated from a city-wide plan to transform our facilities and our services to be more ADA friendly and meet the standards of today,” explains Santiago Rodriguez, project manager. The ADA stands for the Americans with Disabilities Act. This legislation helps protect people with disabilities from discrimination, and ADA Pride Month is all about celebrating its legacy while looking ahead to a better future that prioritizes accessibility for all. Everyone has a place in local government, and we want to ensure that everyone has an equal space in our chamber. #DisabilityPride #DisibilityPrideMonth #ADA34 #ThanksToTheADA

Heading into Fiscal Year 2025, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County both made historic investments in arts and culture. To celebrate, we're looking back on the #InfusionFund and some of its past recipients. The Infusion Fund was a three-year, $36 million public-private initiative to stabilize and support the arts and culture ecosystem, ending June 30, 2024. In that time, some organizations received unrestricted operating grants and some artists and arts groups were awarded #OpportunityFund grants. Meet the featured recipients... 1️⃣ The Light Factory Photo Arts Center is a photography center that serves and enriches the community with a gallery, darkroom, print lab, and lighting studio. It was a recipient of general operating support through the Infusion Fund - $35,000 in fiscal year 2021 and $50,000 in fiscal year 2023. 2️⃣ The Independent Picture House (IPH) is a nonprofit community cinema that screens diverse, foreign, arthouse, and independent films for audiences. The IPH received funding through an Opportunity Fund grant for the pilot of its Community Impact Film Series. 3️⃣ Three Bone Theatre, Inc, an adult professional theatre company that calls the Queen City home, has a mission of using great theatre as a catalyst for conversation and change in the community. The City of Charlotte, Foundation For The Carolinas, and private partners have helped with that mission by providing overarching annual operating support through the Infusion Fund - $12,500 in fiscal year 2021 and $30,000 in fiscal year 2023. Ready to see what's next for arts and culture in Charlotte? See the plan at cltgov.me/artscultureplan! Priya Sircar, Brittani Taylor, Robin Tynes-Miller, Claire Lechtenberg
