We’re proud to be part of CIÉ - Córas Iompair Éireann, a company committed to reducing its carbon footprint, enhancing energy efficiency and promoting circularity across all operations. Building on the Responsible Tourism Policy we launched in 2022, CIE Tours has recently developed a comprehensive decarbonization strategy to address the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from our own operational activities as well as the tours that we operate. #responsibletourism #sustainability
We are excited to share that the CIÉ Group has published our 2023 Sustainability Strategy Annual Review. Over the past year, we've made significant strides in reducing our carbon footprint, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting circularity across our operations. Here are some key milestones from our latest review: - Introduction of biofuels and integration of renewable energy sources - Measures to boost energy efficiency - Transitioning our fleets towards zero-emission vehicles in partnership with the National Transport Authority 2023 was a landmark year, with CIÉ Group delivering 299.7 million passenger journeys across our operating companies @Bus Átha Cliath, @Bus Éireann and @Iarnród Éireann in 2023 - a new record. This achievement reflects our full recovery post-COVID and the trust our passengers place in public transport. We are proud to report a 21.4% increase in passenger journeys and a 1.1% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 2022 to 2023. Our carbon intensity has hit a record low of 0.95 kilograms of CO2 per passenger journey, thanks to the surge in passenger numbers and service expansion. Every journey with CIÉ Group moves us closer to a more sustainable future, reducing congestion, air pollution, energy consumption, and carbon emissions.
