This week, we’re excited to introduce Daniel Law, a rising sophomore at Georgetown University, majoring in Government with a Pre-Law track. This summer, Daniel is interning with our Legal team, bringing his keen interest in law to support our projects. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Daniel will make during his time with us.
1. What is the best professional advice you have ever received?
The best professional advice I’ve tried to adhere to is to be open to growth and change. In both my academic and professional lives, I strive to make the necessary adjustments to succeed to the best of my ability. While I like working under a schedule, I have learned to be willing to make changes when needed. It has made a huge difference for me.
2. What are you looking forward to at CenterSquare?
During my time at CenterSquare, I’m looking forward to familiarizing myself with real estate law. Being able to scrutinize unfamiliar documents, grapple with dense legalese, and understand the day-to-day cycle of a business lawyer feels incredibly helpful in deciding which aspects of legal practice I enjoy. I believe that legal familiarity—with the workloads, methods, and lingo—will be a crucial early step in my professional development as I pursue a career in this field or elsewhere.
3. What inspired you to pursue a career in your current field of study?
I have always been enamored with the idea of studying law. After all, it is (quite literally) in my name. The experience that truly sold me on committing to a pre-law track was my time on, and eventually captaining, my high school’s mock trial team. Poring over the intricate details of a case to develop a tight defense or offense was exhilarating and provided great exposure to legal concepts. I experienced the thrills of law from Philadelphia’s Municipal Courts to Dauphin County Courthouse in Harrisburg for the state tournament. Mock trial also introduced me to countless lawyers, law students, and professors who served as advisors, coaches, and judges over four years of competition, introducing me to many outstanding figures who have greatly benefited my professional and academic life. Ultimately, whether my future takes me to real estate law, litigation, or elsewhere, I’ll owe a lot of my inspiration to my experience in the high school mock trial circuit.
4. If you could trade jobs with any fictional character for a day, who would it be and why?
I would love to take over for Harvey Specter from Suits for a day. While I have yet to graduate from Harvard Law School, I think I could do a pretty good job handling his cases for him. It would certainly be interesting.
5. As a child, what career did you want to have when you “grew up”?
When I was younger, I dreamed of becoming an actor, which led me to doing shows throughout high school. Though that dream has petered out, I still hope to bring some of those theatrical skills to my professional career.
