One in three children in Rwanda suffers from stunting, and many lack access to essential healthcare. That’s 33% of children. CRS works with community Early Childhood Development centers, where mothers and children receive support, and children with disabilities are referred to hospitals to receive the care they need. Trained volunteers teach parents how to grow gardens and provide their children with balanced nutrition. Monthly malnutrition screenings are critical to improving children’s health and helping them reach their full potential. Huge thanks to USAID for making this possible!

Leaving home is difficult – especially when you are forced to flee a war. What helps is having someone on the other side who can support your transition into a new culture. For the last two years, we’ve worked with Caritas Croatia and partners to secure housing, language courses, cultural outings, creative workshops, and psychological support for 3,500 Ukrainian refugees in Croatia. One of these refugees is Iriyna Kostenko (not pictured), who says, “My son attended art therapy. He started talking to me about his feelings now. Thank you for this chance to understand my son better.”

In the heart of Tigray, Ethiopia stands Letay Gebregergis Gebremare. At 50, after losing her husband in the Tigray conflict, Letay’s world turned upside down. With markets barren and prices soaring, her son sacrificed his education to get a job and support their family. But then a lifeline was offered. CRS’s vulnerability-based targeting (VBT), a targeting approach used in the Joint Emergency Operation (JEOP) funded by USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, identified Letay’s family as needing food assistance. Now, monthly food parcels of wheat, pulses, and vegetable oil nourish her and her son. In Tigray, where scarcity is the norm, Letay embodies the community’s heart. “We share what we have,” she says, “even if it’s little, with those in need—especially the children.” USAID Ethiopia
