  • It was a privilege to hear Rabia speak on the experiences that led to her receiving BWI’s 2024 Inspirational Graduate Award on June 13th. New Yorkers like Rabia testify to the impact of BWI’s mission and purpose. After graduating from Red Hook on the Road, Rabia was hired by NYC School Bus and is fulfilling her dreams of a career that provides the independence she was seeking. We are delighted that her loved ones could join the BWI community in celebrating her award and we wish her many more accomplishments in the years to come. Congratulations Rabia!

  • Last week, eight graduates from our Brooklyn Networks training program wrapped up a two-week crash course in fiber optic installation. This was a special pilot training aimed at boosting our past grads' career paths with new skills and support. Fiber optic installation is big in the job market now, offering good pay and ties into eco-friendly building projects. We're excited to see how our grads put their new skills to work in their careers!

  • HONOREE ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 Each year, BWI honors a graduate who is a shining example of what can be achieved when dedication meets opportunity. This year, we honor Rabia Rmaidi, a remarkable graduate of Red Hook on the Road, now thriving as a bus driver for NYCS Bus. Rabia came to the US from Morocco and raised eight children in New York. She says that where she comes from, women are not encouraged to pursue education or careers, but Rabia has a different set of values. Once her kids were grown, she decided to pursue her career dreams. With support from BWI’s bridge programming and the Red Hook on the Road CDL program, Rabia passed her road test on the first try. Now, she loves her fulltime job which provides great benefits, including a pension, and says her children are so proud of her. Please, come out on June 13th and help us celebrate Rabia as she takes home the Inspirational Graduate Award! 🏆🎉 Visit our event page to learn more: bwiny.org/event
