🚨 Today, Amazon enters the GenAI Search Era🚨 Amazon has introduced their own Gen-AI powered conversational shopping interface named "Rufus" Following the recent launches of GenAI search by Walmart in January and Instacart last year... this is going to dramatically change how brands interact with shoppers going forward. 🧐 HOW IS RUFUS DIFFERENT? In the demo (below) Amazon takes much better advantage of the conversational nature of Generative AI, allowing a shopper to have a natural conversation with Rufus to lead them to a purchase decision. By "naming" the assistant like Apple did with Siri, or Amazon did with Alexa, this likely will improve adoption of Rufus-search, as shoppers will feel more delight speaking to this "character" Amazon has created. They've also differentiated the Rufus-search from regular search by placing Rufus in a chat box that can be swiped away, allowing shoppers to clearly differentiate between the two methods of shopping. It appears that there is some voice integration as well, but limited to using your voice to write text into the chat window with Rufus. I would not be surprised if this is rolled out on Alexa devices in the near future to allow for a true voice conversation with Rufus to purchase an item. 💥 HOW WILL THIS IMPACT BRANDS? Just like the Walmart and Instacart examples before, this is going to fundamentally change how you market to Amazon shoppers. In this example, Rufus surfaces Mr. Coffee's drip coffee machine as it's first recommendation for the "Best" drip coffee maker. Is it the Best because it's an Amazon Choice product? Or is it the best based on organic SoV, and if so, which keywords was Amazon paying attention to? It's unclear how will Sponsored Brand and Sponsored Product advertising will factor into Rufus' recommendations. If you don't see it already, conversational search is here to stay, and will only grow in adoption by consumers in 2024 as more and more retailers deploy this into their shopping experiences.

Doing some last minute shopping for hallowe'en candy? Here's what we are seeing going into the weekend of what's rising and what's falling. 🟢 RISING TERMS 🟢 Chocolate coins (supported by the term "gelt") is one of the largest rising categories, along with not surprisingly people looking for "bulk" or "individually wrapped" chocolates. "freeze dried skittles" is the new player on the scene that started spiking earlier this year. This actually started as a TikTok trend in March, with people buying their own freeze drying machines to modify candy by making it crunchier vs. chewier. I've linked to one of the stories below 👇🏾 ❌ FALLING TERMS ❌ All things you may consider "healthy" in the realm of candy is falling with terms like low sugar and vegan falling entirely out of the top 30 which was the window of our analysis While less dramatic of an increase than the other rising terms, we are seeing a spike in "clearance" candy as well which points to consumers trading down for cheaper items, which likely includes away from higher priced "healthy" alternatives. The most important question is... what candy are you excited to steal from your kids trick or treat hauls?!
