David Hockney's 'Rain' leads our Prints & Photographs auction, open for bidding through 15 May. Robin Starr, Director of American & European Works of Art at Bonhams Skinner, shares what makes the work so special: "'Rain' was the first of the works Hockney created in The Weather series, and was heavily influenced by a trip he took to Japan in late 1971. The straight diagonal lines of a driving rain speak to the flattened space of Japanese woodcuts. What I love about this print and what makes it vintage Hockney is the work’s sense of humor. He allows the ink to drip within the image and down beyond its lower edge as though the print itself were left in the rain."
