It's that time and Bill Wilson Center has launched our annual Adopt A Student Back to School Drive. Backpacks collected through this drive are for the many young adults and children in need who are either in foster care, or homeless, and still attending school. These youth struggle to get the back to school essentials needed in order to succeed in an academic setting. Often they worry about basic needs like: securing safe housing, food, transportation, and maintaining healthy connections. At Bill Wilson Center, we strive to make back to school supplies one less barrier for them to succeed. Your support can have a profound effect on the success of these young people’s lives for years to come. In honor of Pride Month, Assemblymember Alex Lee recognized and honored a group of local leaders and activists to highlight the work they've done in our community. Bill Wilson Center CEO Josh Selo was among the honorees. Lee represents California’s 24th Assembly District, which includes the Alameda County communities of Fremont, Newark, and Sunol, and the Santa Clara County communities of Milpitas and San Jose.

Proposed cuts to the State’s budget may jeopardize the programs that tens of thousands of Californians rely on free tax prep, education & outreach, and ITIN support to file their taxes & claim their tax credits for free. Through The HUB, BWC’s foster youth community center, more than 100 youth received tax filing assistance through the free VITA tax service. Cuts to these programs in #CABudget will leave Californians unable to access the relief they rely on to help make ends meet. That’s why it’s so important that state leaders protect and maintain safety net reserves and anti-poverty programs in the state budget that so many of our most vulnerable residents rely on. Current budget cuts will leave Californians unable to access the relief they rely on to help make ends meet.
