About us
B.I.G. Love Cancer Care was established in February of 2007 in memory of Brooke A. Phillips. Brooke was diagnosed with leukemia at just 3 years old. After two years of fighting courageously through intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, she passed away at the age of 5. However, she did not depart this life without first leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, hope, and BIG Love. Since our start in 2007, we have made it our mission to ease the childhood cancer journey for patients and their families through personalized care. Our programming includes feeding families, financial assistance for things like gas or rent, support services such as counseling and scholarships, end of life support, and more. Our first program provided catered meals and gift baskets for families during each holiday at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. We continue to provide these services and more at 9 Texas hospitals, including - Texas Children’s Hospital (Main Campus, Katy, and The Woodlands) - MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital (Houston) - Dell Children’s Medical Center (Austin) - Methodist Children’s Hospital (San Antonio) - Brooke Army Medical Center (San Antonio) - McLane’s Children’s Hospital (Temple) - Children's Hospital of San Antonio Today, B.I.G. Love reaches more than 100,000 patients and their families annually, offering over 12 service-based programs at 9 Texas hospitals, 52 weeks a year. Brooke’s Incredible Gift (B.I.G.) is LOVE!

On July 23rd, 23 years ago, on the maternity ward of The Women’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, I held my new little girl, Brooke, close to my chest as tears began to stream down my face. We had anticipated this day, prayed for this day and hoped against hope for this day that Brooke would be born healthy. And she was. We were holding her, kissing her and loving her. However, four months earlier, we had doubts and fear surrounding her birth and well-being. After a series of blood tests and ultrasounds, we were told that there was a high probability that Brooke would be born with Downs Syndrome. We were heartbroken. Through tears, Chaney said, “If Brooke is going to be a Downs Syndrome baby, God picked a good family to give her to. We will all love her and care for her. ” I thought, yes, of course. God doesn’t make mistakes. There will be a unique purpose for our little girl, for Brooke Alyson, and we will be here every step of the way to help her accomplish it. As soon as Brooke was born, and I laid eyes on her, I was captivated by her and knew in my heart her life would be filled with great purpose. Now today, 23 years later, the words from this journal entry, touch my heart in a profound way. In honor of Brooke today, I am asking for dedicated friends to join with me each month, in not only praying for the 165 children and teens in hospital beds right now, but by giving just $23 a month to help us continue Brooke’s great purpose. A cancer mom once told me, "If it were not for your weekly deliveries, I don't think my daughter would ever talk or smile." And when I visited the room of a teen patient recently, she pointed to the calendar in her room and said, "See Ms. Jessica, I count down the days until BIG Love arrives."
