About us

Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) is an Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) regional corporation for the Bering Strait and Norton Sound region and is owned by more than 8,000 Alaska Native shareholders. The BSNC region is located in Northwest Alaska and is home to three culturally distinct people: Inupiat, Siberian Yupik and Central Yup'ik. BSNC actively pursues responsible development of resources and other business opportunities. Through its subsidiaries, BSNC serves the federal government and commercial customers. BSNC owns and manages the subsurface estate of the region's 17 village corporations (approximately 2 million acres), as well as the surface and subsurface estates of an additional 145,000 acres. The Corporation is headquartered in Nome, Alaska, and its primary business office is located in Anchorage, Alaska. BSNC has site locations throughout Alaska, across the United States and internationally.

  • Happy National Intern Day! 🌟 Our interns play an important role in our mission: to improve the quality of life of Our People through economic development while protecting our land and preserving our culture and heritage. Their innovation, enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge is inspiring. Here are some highlights of what our interns have been up to: -Toured BSNC subsidiaries Alaska Industrial Hardware, Arcticom and Central Environmental Inc. -Received CPR and First Aid training at BSNC subsidiary Environmental Management, Inc. -Learned about Alaska Native culture. -Learned about financial literacy. We are proud of our interns and excited to see where their journeys take them. Their hard work and dedication exemplify the future of our Company.   • Recently, the 2024 BSNC Summer Intern Cohort, comprising Shane Angnaboogok, Nathaniel Appolloni, Jorden Barnhill, Joseph Butzke, Aiyana Campbell, Kyle Collins, Jessica Davis, Brady Dickens, Avrey Hansell, Reece Ivanoff, Adria Lawrence, Isaiah Nayokpuk, Luke Polito, and Taylor Tiulana, donned proper Personal Protective Equipment and participated in an educational tour of three of BSNC’s subsidiaries: Alaska Industrial Hardware (AIH), Arcticom and Central Environmental Inc. (CEI). During the tour, the interns were provided with in-depth information on the operations of each company. They learned about the variety of services and products offered and the roles these companies play in their respective industries. The experience was designed to give the interns a comprehensive understanding of the business operations and strategies that drive these successful subsidiaries, enhancing their knowledge and preparing them for future roles.   • Central Environmental Inc. (CEI), a subsidiary of BSNC, seeks a Director of Finance to join their executive team. This role is pivotal in providing financial leadership and strategic direction, ensuring the financial health and growth of the company. The Director of Finance will be responsible for reviewing pricing proposals, approving Estimates at Completion (EACs), overseeing monthly financials and analysis, budgeting and forecasting.   • BSNC's 2024 Summer Interns and Shareholder Development staff attended CPR, First Aid, and AED training at BSNC subsidiary Environmental Management Inc. (EMI). The in-person training offered a full day of hands-on learning. Each participant received certification through the American Heart Association, earning an American Heart Saver Card. "Staying alive, staying alive—120 bpm!" said Mike Hupe, the CPR instructor, using the beat to help participants maintain rhythm during chest compressions.   • BSNC shareholder Laureli Ivanoff has been honored with the James Beard Award for her work covering food-related issues in the state. An Inupiaq writer from Unalakleet, Ivanoff was recognized for her work in the Western-based independent magazine High Country News. The James Beard Awards recognizes leaders in the culinary and food media industries and those in the broader food systems. Ivanoff's pieces include: A Meal of Many Seasons - A beautiful exploration of the culinary customs of a Native supper. Subsistence Abundance - A poignant piece on the impact of the loss of salmon runs on Native communities. Good Ice - An insightful look at the critical role of sea ice in the food ecosystem of Western Alaska. As a talented freelance writer, Ivanoff has also contributed to the Anchorage Daily News and received the Alaska Governor's Arts and Humanities Award in 2019.
