Bringing peace of mind through better health to our customers and communities
About us
As Tennessee's largest health plan, we've been helping Tennesseans find their own unique paths to good health for more than 70 years. More than that, we're your neighbors and friends – fellow Tennesseans with deep roots of caring tradition, a focused approach to physical, financial and community good health for today, and a bright outlook for an even healthier tomorrow. Our mission is simple: peace of mind through better health. We're an independent, not-for-profit, locally governed health plan company – meaning we live and work alongside our Tennessee business customers and plan members. Our 6,000 employees across the state have built our strong reputation for integrity, excellent service and community leadership. But we are also part of the BlueCross BlueShield Association, a nationwide association of health care plans. Because of this, our plan members have access to the same quality health benefits while traveling or living out of state that they have while in Tennessee. © 2018 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Inc., an Independent Licensee of the BlueCross BlueShield Association.

Our BlueCross emblem will light up the skyline of Memphis as employees make use of our new space in the historic Commonwealth Building in the heart of downtown. “We worked hard to find a location that matched our needs as a remote-first company while still offering a quality environment for employees to use,” says Kevin Woods, VP and Memphis Market President. “The historic Commonwealth Building was a perfect fit for us, and its location downtown places us at the center of the community we serve.” #WeAreBCBST

Congratulations to Casey Dungan our president and CEO of BlueCare Tennessee, for being selected to this year's Leadership Tennessee class. The 2024-2025 class is made up of 48 people from 14 counties representing a variety of organizations and professional backgrounds. Over the next 10 months, they'll come together to discuss solutions to issues that are important to communities across our state. As the state's largest health insurer, we're focused on improving health and helping to make Tennessee a great place to work and live. We encourage our leaders to participate in programs like Leadership Tennessee in order to stay informed on the issues that matter to the individuals we serve.

Social drivers of health are defined as obstacles that can lead to health disparities — unfair and avoidable differences in health status. In this op-ed for The Tennessean, Chief Data & Engagement Officer Sherri Zink defines social drivers of health — with a focus on food insecurity. She also shares how BlueCross is helping to address this challenge through our health equity report and partnerships with communities and providers. Several areas in Davidson County and Middle Tennessee are at increased risk of food insecurity. But as Sherri writes, we all have a role to play in equitable health care for all.
Why we must address social drivers of health as part of everyone’s health care journey

Our BlueBridge internship program is for college juniors and seniors – aimed at equipping them with real-world job experience here at BlueCross. These interns recently gathered for a social networking day that featured team building exercises and networking opportunities. As a remote first company, BlueCross is dedicated to creating ways our interns can collaborate and connect with each other. We look forward to more of these types of events in the future as our internship program grows. #WeAreBCBST
