A new article in C&EN Media Group highlights the need for taking advantage of resources we already have. "Electronic waste is a gold mine waiting to be tapped. How can companies dig in?" Battelle Environmental Scientist Morgan Evans is a source for the story. She said the technologies for this recycling and upcycling face challenges between bench scale models and pilot reaction. But the single most important metric is cost. “At the end of the day, you have to meet economic markers for things to be adopted by industry,” Evans says. “The technology development piece really can make or break some of the economics.” Read the article here https://okt.to/vnP9qo

Battelle reposted this
Many remote and regional interns traveled to Columbus this week for end-of-summer internship programming. Today, we were led on a Battelle History Tour by Curt Flemming, and it did not disappoint. (There’s quite a lot of history when the organization is almost a century old!) Interns got to see the original building, known as “Building A,” including a replica of Gordon Battelle’s office with some of his personal belongings, as well as the Board of Directors room (pictured). I especially loved how the students filed into the room and naturally took a seat at the table. We are all part of impacting the culture and mission of Battelle. #NationalInternDay #ItCanBeDone #SummerInternships #EarlyCareers

Call it the circular economy or the green economy, Battelle is actively working on a variety of projects and programs to help reuse materials instead of creating waste and protect our natural environment. Plastics and textile recycling and upcycling, recovering strategic metals and rare earth elements, converting waste to valuable materials, leveraging usable materials from old solar panels and more--we're doing it at Battelle.
