Several interesting takeaways from #Siggraph2024 Day One: Jensen highlighted, "You have to will your future into existence," setting the tone for engaging discussions at the event. The conversations between the incomparable Lauren Goode and Jensen and then Jensen with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg captivated the audience, showcasing a rare blend of talent, tenacity, and an unwavering belief in creating the unprecedented. Neither men are deities and they acknowledge their misses while continuing to reimagine a better future for all of us with their ground breaking advancements. Notable was the discussion on CEO/Founders still steering companies valued at over $1T in Market Cap. It seems only two remain in this exclusive fraternity, a testament to their remarkable journey from startups to economic powerhouses. Their focus on innovation, accessibility, and commercialization stood out, inspiring to all of us in the High Tech Startup Ecosystem. The keynote has me even more motivated to contribute by unleashing Nvidia's assets to the next wave of unicorn startups. The insight shared on Gen AI's goal of inference over training and the universal reach of AI was thought-provoking. Qualitative UX Researcher and Designer | Accessibility, Tangible interfaces, Learning, Creative practices | PhD (ABD)
A really common question I get asked as an HCI and accessibility researcher is, "What are you *actually* doing?". Well, over the past few years, I've been working with musicians and learners from The Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School to make the creative practice of music learning more accessible to blind and/or low vision people. Through this research, we have published some papers at major accessibility and technology-focused ACM, Association for Computing Machinery conferences like ASSETS and shared insights and knowledge with other folks in the field. More recently, we've designed and tested wearable haptic systems to make non-verbal communication more accessible. Actually, Carleton University just published an article about this ongoing project that I am super excited to share. It's called The tap-tap project. 💫 You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/g9Gi-EFy

Today's mediatation: Meeks Rule #102 - "People make choices, and there are consequences" "'This is an important educational lesson,' said Klopfer. 'Working hard and struggling is actually an important way of learning. When you’re given an answer, you’re not struggling and you’re not learning. And when you get more of a complex problem, it’s tedious to go back to the beginning of a large language model and troubleshoot it and integrate it.'" A tip of the hat to a post by Daniel Terhorst-North today, that led me to this ACM, Association for Computing Machinery article.
