The natural gas and oil industry is at a crossroads of meeting global energy needs while also addressing climate change by protecting the environment with ever-safer production. The two are connected and present real and exigent needs. For instance, population is rising, energy demand is increasing, and geopolitical conflicts are escalating, which make energy security a critical concern. At the same time, environmental concerns are growing, and we recognize our role in addressing them, especially those related to climate action. Our approach has been to implement innovative strategies and practices that address both considerations, a dual focus that we pursue through the development and application of rigorous standards. https://lnkd.in/e7sKcRAS

API and its member companies strongly believe in the potential of low-carbon hydrogen, including hydrogen made from natural gas with carbon capture and sequestration. Though it gives needed attention to U.S. hydrogen policy, a recent article in the Financial Times throws too much cold water onto the idea. Some balance is needed. We must start by recognizing that the U.S. cannot reach ambitious climate and emissions reductions targets without low-carbon hydrogen of all types – including “blue hydrogen” made from natural gas and CCS. America’s oil and natural gas companies have been at the forefront of hydrogen industry for decades and are continuously reducing emissions from existing hydrogen production. https://lnkd.in/ejV_Q_A6

Ahead of tonight’s presidential debate, API - American Petroleum Institute Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer Amanda Eversole suggests five questions to encourage productive discourse around #energy policy. The questions would showcase both candidates’ potential to help drive U.S. energy leadership, powered by American natural #gas and #oil. Among other topics, CNN would be wise to explore the importance of increased production of American oil and natural gas, consumer freedoms in choosing a vehicle, and reforming our broken federal permitting system.
