✈️ Micah C. Nicholas, MSNPA, our Capital-West Executive Director, deployed to Houston this week to assist with long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl. 💪🏽 "The mission is showing up!" Micah said of his two week assignment assisting our neighbors in Texas. Long after the visible signs of the disaster have faded, our compassionate volunteers are there to connect families to resources so that they can start the process of healing. ⛑️ Recovery casework volunteers are among the most urgently needed statewide. Register to volunteer at redcross.org/Louisiana.

🌪️ It’s been two weeks since tornadoes touched down in northwest Louisiana, damaging hundreds of homes across seven parishes. ⛑️ 30+ dedicated Team Louisiana volunteers supported cooling centers, served 450 meals, completed detailed damage assessments and connected families with immediate financial assistance and long-term recovery resources. ❤️ Thank you to our volunteers for going above and beyond, even in challenging circumstances, to serve our neighbors in need.

⛑️ Our Community Adaptation Program team in Terrebonne Parish held a successful Emergency Preparedness Summit last month, which brought together local government agencies, non-profits and community groups to collaborate on coordinated disaster readiness plans. "One of the key takeaways from the summit is the establishment of a robust network of non-profits that work in unison to tackle the intertwined challenges of health, hunger and housing. This network not only enhances the immediate disaster response but also builds long-term resilience within the community." said Office of District Attorney Joseph L. Waitz Jr. 💪🏽 Creating a unified front to meet the unique needs of the Bayou community is crucial, as disasters become more frequent and intense. We thank our CAP team for their continued leadership and appreciate our partners, Start Corporation, Dr. Arlanda Williams and D.A. Joseph Waitz Jr.

🚁 Our summer youth program graduates are up, up and away! ⭐ Youth participants volunteering at Fort Johnson's Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital had the opportunity to get a tour and demonstration of a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter ahead of their graduation last week. Thank you to 1st Battalion, 5th Aviation Regiment for showing the students more about the work of flight paramedics and MEDEVAC. ✍🏽 Want to know more about our youth program? ✈️ Louisianans are on the move and ready to serve! 💼 Last week, teammates Micah C. Nicholas, MSNPA and Chris Nuebel, MPA, SSGBC attended a long-term recovery institute in Tampa, FL to learn more about helping affected communities rebuild after major disasters strike. This training equipped them with skills that will better prepare our teams to assist more Louisianans. 🌧️ Following the devastating floods in the Midwest, volunteer Joe Norton deployed to Iowa as a recovery caseworker. We're proud to have Joe supporting families throughout the recovery process as they get back on their feet.
