About us
Who we are: The American Enterprise Institute is a public policy think tank dedicated to defending human dignity, expanding human potential, and building a freer and safer world. The work of our scholars and staff advances ideas rooted in our belief in democracy, free enterprise, American strength and global leadership, solidarity with those at the periphery of our society, and a pluralistic, entrepreneurial culture. How we do it: We are committed to making the intellectual, moral, and practical case for expanding freedom, increasing individual opportunity, and strengthening the free enterprise system in America and around the world. Our work explores ideas that further these goals, and AEI scholars take part in this pursuit with academic freedom. AEI operates independently of any political party and has no institutional positions. Our scholars’ conclusions are fueled by rigorous, data-driven research and broad-ranging evidence. Our work: Our scholars not only engage in research that focuses on today’s most critical challenges but also look ahead to ideas and issues that have yet to be widely recognized. AEI scholars pursue innovative, independent work across a wide array of subjects. From economics, education, health care, and poverty to foreign and defense studies, public opinion, politics, society, and culture, our experts drive the competition of ideas.

Investors are betting on interest-rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve in September, and potentially even in late July. But the outlook for inflation and the labor market in the United States does not indicate that policymakers should begin lowering rates in the next two months. In my latest Project Syndicate column, I argue that the Fed should not cut rates in September, and certainly not this month. The Fed has entered the last mile of its fight against inflation. With its credibility at stake, it must not flinch before it reaches the finish line. https://lnkd.in/eBRdKm4x

Although it's July, k-12 teachers and informal educators are already coming together to talk about back to school. A shocking statistic plaguing every state is chronic absenteeism that has skyrocketed post-pandemic. A goal every one can get behind is reducing chronic absenteeism by 50% in 5 years. Girlstart makes a pledge to continue working with our school partners to hold After School clubs at the locations the youth need to show up to in order to experience learning. If we are the reason a girl shows up, that means it is another day she is in school. The current secretary of agriculture, Thomas Vilsack, with a certain measure of alarm, highlighted the decline in the number of farms and the amount of land in farming. He asked, “As a country, are we okay with losing that many farms? . . . Are we okay with losing that much farmland or is there a better way?” A new analysis from Barry K. Goodwin and Vincent H. Smith challenges concerns about the decline in farms and land, emphasizing the increased productivity and efficiency of the US agricultural sector. https://lnkd.in/epKSJM_h
