Here's how you can mitigate risks in mobile technology projects as a project manager.

One thing I find useful is using Amazon's One-Way or Two-Way Door Decision framework. In this framework, we understand that if a decision has a lasting or irreversible effect once implemented, it is a one-way door. On the other hand, if the decision is reversible or does not bring significant impacts if discontinued, we are talking about a two-way door. In my experience, we encourage teams to make two-way door decisions quickly, ensuring agility in projects without taking unnecessary risks.

Before starting the project, you can conduct risk assessment in risk management (iso31000). From the steps of risk assessment, The first step is risk identification to identify the risks associated with the target. The second step is to conduct a risk analysis, score the risks, and prioritize them. The third step is to conduct a risk assessment, and because resources are limited, high risks (risks that senior officials believe need to be dealt with) are dealt with. The above is my opinion

While performing risk analysis there are chances we will be able to identify all the risks and might be able to plan for its mitigation at initial planning. But, there might occur some risks which we might not be able to identify at initial planning. We should always have regular risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle. Use of project management tools to track and manage risks. Agile approach: Flexibility to adapt to new risks as they emerge.

Plan! Communicate clearly and have a transparent dialogue between all stakeholders. Plan! Make the plan visible and talk about risk regularly. Plan!

We can have below engagement strategies. Communication: Regular updates, clear and transparent communication channels. Collaboration: Involve stakeholders in the development process through feedback sessions, beta testing, and user groups. Customization: Tailor engagement methods to different stakeholder groups based on their needs and interests. We should also manage expectations of the stakeholders by setting clear project goals and timelines. Regularly updating stakeholders on progress and any changes. Being honest about potential challenges and setbacks.

Consider establishing and measure thoroughly the features' KPIs. The internal Time-To-Market specifically to get a consistent iterative and incremental delivery. This includes slicing the User Stories; Acknowledging that prepping a package and the submission acceptance (IPA and/or APK) takes an extra steps to define the right pacing to go live with the feature; And describing wonderfully the improvements incoming on the new version.

When we think of a quality product, we need to ensure we are covering everything being reviewed and tested from the start of UI development and user-flow creation. Half of the crucial things for development and QA gets done when these are aspects are considered before writing the code. Test often, test right, keep evidence recorded for the future reference helps mitigating issues. Automation testing covers what you add to test, but the end-user prescriptive needs extensive manual testing. Actually there's nothing like Manual and Automation, it's balance of what, and how you complete the STLC.

Change is part of life in every creative field, especially if you take mobile technology as one of it. Everyone should be on same page no matter what role but every aspect of small and large view helps to build sucessful project. Looping team in all stockholders communication as well as notifying issues before it gets problem enough to raise mismanagement issue is part of it.

Change management is one of the most important steps in software development be it mobile or web application. Change management should be taken into consideration from day one when starting the planning and development. We should also be able to identify areas where changes might occur in further development phases. There will not be a case where the changes are not required in further development phases. But if change management is taken into consideration and is planned properly then it can reduce the efforts of redevelopment.

Maintain thorough and up-to-date project documentation. I created detailed documentation for a mobile app project, including design specifications, user manuals, and testing protocols. This documentation facilitated smoother transitions between team members and ensured continuity, reducing risks associated with knowledge gaps. Implementing comprehensive documentation ensures consistency and clarity throughout the project lifecycle. Develop contingency plans for critical project risks. For a high-stakes mobile app launch, we prepared contingency plans for potential server outages and security breaches. These plans included backup servers and predefined response protocols, ensuring quick recovery and minimal disruption.

Build with the right tools and technology. I learned this the hard way. Maybe this is obvious but you don’t want to go through all this work and have to redo your project in a couple of years when you find out that the tech you used does not allow you to properly scale. There are a lot of organizations with technical debt because of this reason.
