Always try to be diplomatic. Sharing our expertise is important. We need to do it in a way that never feels condescending or demanding. Many times in the academic world we report to people who are not event experts. I have reported to Chief of Staffs,VPs and a COO. Try to be a trusted asset and make your boss’s job easier by being resource when one is needed.

One thing I’ve found helpful is to define roles before the event and executing those roles at the event. Always be willing to jump and pivot as needed.

Understand where your boss is coming from, and don’t make yourself a victim if something doesn’t go your way. Say what you can do to contribute to the event and follow through. Simple!

I agree, I was told once to be more open to receiving feedback from my supervisor. I learned that I was letting her coach me in a way where she was giving feedback as to context; such as in writing or with this specific person. The first step to recognizing where you need growth is allowing to be a part of the conversation and taking from every perspective. The more you learn, the more you contribute.

One thing I have found helpful is that being respectful is the best way to 🎄 treat people I see that as a child 🧒 we were ♉ taught to respect our 🧓 elders I feel that along the way we were disrespected and responded in 👑 kind I think 🤔 at some point we ⚒ worked for a kinder gentler society I want to believe the 🎎 doll 🎭 that says be kind to everyone I intend to keep 🐝 being respectful because 🎭 they 🕵 say that ☫ if you give respect 🧒 you get respect
