Before diving into any project, create a risk map to safeguard your success. Here's what it entails: 1. Identify the Threats: Brainstorm all potential issues that could arise during the project. 2. Impact & Likelihood: Categorize each risk based on its severity and how probable it is to occur. Consider project complexity, team experience, resources, and external dependencies. 3. Prioritize & Prepare: Focus on the most impactful and likely risks. Develop mitigation plans to minimize their impact or prevent them altogether. By proactively visualizing potential roadblocks, you can be better prepared to navigate them and ensure a smooth project journey.

As a Project manager, there are multiple approaches that can be used to identify risks. Personally, I believe that Project managers must use a combination of these approaches to mitigate risks. Conduct risk assessments: Any type of project, irrespective of the approach used (waterfall or agile), has some sort of predictability or roadmap. The project manager must identify risks between each task or milestone. This can help him/her to create mitigation plans. Engaging stakeholders: Clients, team members and even external stakeholders can provide valuable insights to identify risks. In Risk Mapping one the key step is to discover & learn the risks from other similar projects by discussing with the project team or from central risk repository. Based the new project environment, we can brainstorm with the team for relevant potential risks.

Having a consultant or experienced subject matter expert "SME" in any domain or industry is valuable for projects to minimizing the risks But it's not the solution, In another situation, it may be the risk itself. This is because the team that will execute or apply the advice or guidelines provided by the expert may have difficulty applying it or may not trust the output of their work. Building the proper alignment and continuous engagement between all stakeholders regularly during the project to evaluate the roadmap as well as the expected outcomes is very important, perhaps more importantly than the expert.
