Conversely, you may trust someone but struggle to communicate effectively, yet you know they will deliver what is expected. Ideally, relationships that combine both trust and rapport yield transformative and creative insights. In virtual meetings, assessing the depth and effectiveness of team communication is vital. If discussions are superficial and boundaries are not pushed, trust and rapport have not yet been established. As a facilitator, it’s important to identify barriers and question what information might be missing from pre-meetings with sponsors.

If you are the leader of the virtualou team you have an additional way to build personal connections, and that is reaching out to team members on an individual basis. As the leader you have protocol access as long as you are not a nuisance. Your approach is to note some comment, attitude, perspective that you want to clarify with them. The idea is not to be critical but come from the place of helping them boost their career by their turning up more powerfully during group calls. A few of caution. Do this with all team members and you come across as a coach. Do it selectively and open yourself up to criticism or worse. Do not be a nuisance, disregard their private time, or put yourself where your motive could be misundestood.
