Other than through surveys and trend analysis, you will be involved in unraveling the underlying needs and motives of customers. Often times new marketers focus too much on easily measurable data when it comes to personas. Magic really happens when you are able to accurately identify your ideal customer profile, identify which players participate in the buying center (if B2B), and then dig deep into the psychographics and behavioral data for each persona and role in the buying center

I have found that departments/ teams in different organisations work differently and with unique systems. Internships offer you a greater scope to sample the different ways teams integrate to the unification of product success. You are also able to leverage the different systems and tools used by each team to bring out the best of your knowledge and with time expertise. You may start off with great people skills and as you end your internship add data analytics to your belt.

When networking with mentors, make sure you go well prepared with a structured agenda. Pre-empt your questions by seeing their LinkedIn profile, understanding what projects they have been part of and what motivates them. Invest your time on creating a relationship rather than conducting an interview with them.
