1 Risk Basics

Risk management involves identifying, assessing, and controlling threats to an organization's capital and earnings. These risks stem from a variety of sources including financial uncertainties, legal liabilities, strategic management errors, accidents, and natural disasters. Your job is to understand these risks and implement processes to minimize their impact. This does not mean eliminating all risks, as this would also eliminate potential opportunities. Instead, it's about making informed decisions that balance potential benefits with associated risks.

I think when it comes to maintaining balance between risk mitigation & creativity can be achieved thru : Ensure that risk is mitigated to the extent of within risk appetite so that no subjective bias comes from creativity but still allowing team to be creative in exact measure of risk mitigation which can be innovative, more cost effective & may foster collective wisdom

Striking the right balance would require the following; 1.Encourage open communication for the team to raise any risk involved in the project. 2.Allow each department to document potential risks and possible solutions. 3.Conduct pilot projects before full scale implementation and any mistakes in the pilot stage to be used as a learning before full scale. 4.Mantain a risk register and do regular reviews and update with any new potential risks.

In my view the best approach to balance risk mitigation and team creativity which can be achieved by promoting as well as encouraging your teams to partner together, while avoiding any communication barriers. As a risk manager you must make efforts to foster a culture which includes: 1. Risk management is everyone’s responsibility. 2. Its a shared obligation to achieve planned risk elimination initiatives. 3. Create road map for the team on how to realize risk goals with prudent decision making steps for maximum returns.
