What do you do if your problem-solving abilities are hindering your chances of getting a promotion?

Seeking help from a mentor with a successful record of problem-solving can provide guidance, feedback, and opportunities for mentees to learn different problem-solving techniques. The mentee can apply what they learned and seek opportunities to showcase their skills on projects with heightened visibility. This can strengthen the mentee's skills via real-world practice and solidify their credibility in solving problems.

Well, asking for help demonstrates expertise in problem-solving skills. Skills are meant to be expressed, and feedback is essential. Where the expression of a skill hinders promotion, then learning which is part of the process is neglected. There are levels to these things and promotion offers yet another opportunity for continued growth in that area of skill.

I think finding the person who knows how to help is literally solving the problem. If you're in a situation where it is negative to ask for help, then its not problem solving, its a test.

One needs to know that asking for help might be a better option as it demonstrates the ability and willingness to learn, a key trait of a good leader. This also shows humility to recognise your weakness. Lastly, getting those involved (directly or indirectly), to chip in to solve the problem, will lead to a higher chance of acceptance.

To leverage problem-solving capabilities we must focus on collaboration, balance creativity with efficiency, and openly share achievements and our insights/experience. This is an innate human trait we are all born with. It should be no different in a professional setting. Recognising and understanding the causes is an invaluable skill in a work setting, as you are able to steer clear of pitfalls and dangers early. Leadership is all about being able to learn and bringing that experience and leadership to the team.

"Reverse Mentoring". No matter how long you may be in the industry, it's very important to understand how the younger wave of colleagues view and approach problems. They will be the ones directly impacted by what a leader chooses. To resonate with them, you need to be empathetic to and demonstrate thinking like them.
