“Buzzwords” don’t belong on your resume. They are NOT the same as “keywords”, which are FUNCTIONAL skills related to the job (which should be used in context), and supported with metrics. If you truly are a buzzword junkie, save it for interviews.

Here's the reality of the recruiting process: Unless the role is at the most junior level, the resume is going to be read by people across the organization (most especially with senior level searches.) So, if your a senior I.T. professional, the VP of Marketing will read your resume, and if he/she does not understand your resume---even before you walk through the door they will assume that you can't explain issues/solutions to them in a way that a nontechnical professional could understand them. Not quite the kiss of death to your candidacy, but certainly not something which will support that candidacy.

My number one piece of advice: ask the people who actively shortlist for recruiting drives what they NEED on a resume. Ask hiring managers what they look for on a resume when sorting through applications. Don't ask a resume writer, who was taught by a career coach, who read it online, written by another career coach. It's so hard to figure out what's truth and what's fear based marketing when sifting through google blog posts. In short; You need to make a recruiter's life easier by demonstrating how you meet their criteria, how you can impact an organisation, and sell it with examples backed by achievements. That's it.

This advice is making the concept of keywords unnecessarily complicated. It's not about impressing the reader with "buzzwords" but demonstrating how you meet their criteria. If a keyword suitably works in your sentence or description, go for it. If you're throwing them in for the sake of it, it sounds strange, and, likely, you are not qualified for the role if keyword stuffing is your strategy. A careful analysis of what the job description is asking for, and matching this up to your own experience/capabilities, is key to getting this right.
