THERE ARE NO CAREER SETBACKS, must be a mindset! If you forgot to book the bands for the concert, find another business. Otherwise, relax, live events come in all forms of success. I booked a party with a major radio station. When their listeners arrived, carpenters were still finishing the new club. The radio execs were freaking out. I rounded up their on-air personalities and interviewed all of them. The fans loved it! I worked with the station for years. When something goes wrong, everyone else will panic. The first clear head will be the leader back to victory. That leadership is what they're paying you for, not to be perfect!

Everyone loves a unifier, a person who puts people together. I visit competitors like old friends. I continuously analyze their skill set. I want as many resources in my holster as possible. I also want to know every one of my competitors, their specialty, their prices and how they do business. I want referrals. I want my clients to know that I am well informed. I want my clients to know that there's no job too big for me because I can bring an army, if the event requires it. If your community doesn't know who you are, that sends a very different message.

This is true in any pursuit, the one who cares the most, wins. If you are the most confident and the most fun, victories will be many more than defeats. I was headlining a small club. I felt terrible when I arrived. The little club was rundown and poorly. There were some empty chairs. I wanted to sell the room out, but I failed. The club owner rebooked me after the show. That was the largest audience they had ever had. Don't think, be fun! Enjoy your work! Unbridled enthusiasm is formidable and rarely defeated.
