Austin Thind is a patent agent at Cooley, advising clients on intellectual property matters for software, machine learning, electronics, and physics-based technologies. Prior to law school, he spent several years developing advanced technologies for large automotive companies. As a research engineer for Ford Motor Company, he developed control algorithms for semi-active suspension systems. Working for commercial truck manufacturer PACCAR, he led ISO 26262 functional safety-compliant development of safety-critical features for autonomous and battery electric truck platforms, including steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire and battery management systems.

He also has a passion for teaching. He taught data structures and computer systems courses at Western Washington University, tutored inmates at a federal penitentiary, and led literacy and numeracy programs for children in remote First Nations communities in northern Canada.
