Vampire Dormitory
Tweekums25 June 2024
Mito Yamamoto is an orphan who wasn't particularly wanted by the rest of her family. Made homeless in her teens she disguises herself as a boy to avoid unwanted attention. One day she meets Ruka Saotome who, after a minor accident, tastes her blood. It turns out he is a vampire! Events lead to him inviting her to become his thrall... this means her enrolling at his all boys school. Will she be able to hide the fact that she is a girl? Ruka develops feelings for her but that could endanger his future position as leader of the vampires.

This might not be the best anime I've watched this season but it was quite fun. While watching I was immediately reminded of the classic 'Ouran High School Host Club' and the not so classic 'Diabolik Lovers'... sadly it lacks the wit of the former but is more charming than the latter of these. The story provides some elements of humour, romance and some jeopardy. There aren't too many surprises but that doesn't really matter. The character designs and animation are both pretty good. Being animated it is easier to accept that Mito can look feminine when her long hair is on show yet pass for male by donning a short wig and suitable clothing. Overall I'd not say this was a must see but I enjoyed it well enough while watching.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Vampire Dormitory

"Vampire Dormitory" captivates with its blend of romance, fantasy, and gothic allure. The story follows Mito, a girl disguised as a boy, who crosses paths with the enigmatic vampire, Ruka. Their chemistry is electric, driving a plot filled with heart-pounding moments and tender interactions. The animation is stunning, with detailed character designs and atmospheric settings, while the haunting soundtrack perfectly complements the series' tone. This anime skillfully balances supernatural intrigue with deep emotional themes, creating a compelling and immersive experience. "Vampire Dormitory" is a must-watch for fans of romantic and supernatural genres.

Ugh

This is just awful. The animation is decent, but, the story is so awkward, cheesy and pointless. It's disappointingly bad.

I feel like this should be enough said but there is a character minimum for reviews.

The premise could be interesting, but, it fails. It's uncomfortable to watch with no comic relief. Drama stupid drama. Even the chances to have a little cute humor fall short: the vampire character is a super fan of a cheesy romance game which could be hilarious. It is not funny, just seems pathetic.

The bad boy seems like he's actually just a nice guy looking out for people.

The butler is also random.

Finally met the minimum!!! Yay.

Disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
Ugh...

I've waited to watch this anime. To say I am disappointed is just not enough. I like the animation. The idea. Of course there's vampires and I love anything with vampires.

But...

This is cringe. The plot is incredulous but not in the right way. There's so much moot points and the manga is well... I don't know I had a look at it but it doesn't seem to be any better than the anime.

I am all for cheesiness, romance and vampires. Going back to the plot it makes me question time and time again: how could he not figure it out she's a girl, after he saw her as a girl?

Just doesn't make sense...

My opinions it the entire thing is bonkers. But I do laugh. Not because it's funny, rather because it's so silly. I am still watching it, even though my eyes bleed. That must say something about me.

Cute and fun!

I binged this anime in just a couple of days. It's a cross between Ouran High School Host Club and Vampire Knight. The way Ruka slowly falls for Mito reminded me of the K drama Coffee Prince as well. The main characters are fun to watch and you want to root for them -- even Ren, who doesn't make the best choices. I wish the anime covered more of the vampire world however. It's hard to understand why Ruka would want to be a part of it, much less lead it. Nevertheless, I looked forward to every episode because I wanted to see what would happen between Ruka and Mito. The storyline may be fun and cute on the surface, but it hits on themes of identity, acceptance, and universal love. 10/10.

It starts cringey and honestly gets better
tfhmtsfp26 June 2024
I started watching it as a casual thing to put on in the background and it was super cringey it was almost laughable. I will say it honestly gets better and has deeper emotional episodes and I was not expecting the BLish content but it made it more entertaining. The first half of the season can get hard to watch with the entire cast being so blind to Mito it's frustrating. But it ends up becoming pretty cute and a classic romance anime with a beach and festival episode. Plus the dub and dub were both pretty good. If you can stick it through I'd say it's my favorite guilty pleasure pick of the season.
