About this Privacy Policy

We know how important it is for you to understand how we use your personal information. This Privacy Policy sets out how and why IKEA North America Services, LLC and its U.S. affiliates  (“IKEA”, “we,” “our,” or “us”) collect, store, process, and share your personal information. We strive to be transparent with you about what we do with your personal information.

This Privacy Policy covers our U.S. stores, U.S. online experiences (including our websites and mobile apps), U.S. centres, and other U.S. locations where you may interact with us. This Privacy Policy also describes the choices you can make about how we collect and use your personal information. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and is subject to, the Terms of Use.

8. U.S. State Privacy Notice and California Notice at Collection: What are your privacy rights with respect to your personal information?

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia have enacted consumer privacy laws that grant their residents certain rights and require additional disclosures (“State Privacy Laws”).  These laws are either in effect now or will be soon. If you are a resident of one of these states, this section applies to you. If you would like to speak to us about any of your rights, please contact us (see Section 17)

PRIVACY RIGHTS

Subject to certain exceptions, you have data privacy rights under State Privacy Laws, including the right to request information about the collection of your personal information by IKEA, to access your personal information in a portable format, and to correct or delete your personal information.

The right of access includes information about:

  • The categories of personal information we collected about you.
  • The categories of sources for the personal information we collected about you.
  • Our business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling that personal information.
  • The categories of third parties to whom we disclosed or sold that personal information. The categories of personal information we disclosed or sold to each category of third parties
  • The specific pieces of personal information we collected about you.

You may also request access (data portability) to personal data IKEA has collected and maintains about you and, subject to certain exceptions, IKEA will provide that information to you through a secure method in a commonly used electronic format.

If you believe we store incorrect information about you, such as your name or address, you can ask us to correct this.

You also have the right to request that we delete any of your personal information that we have collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions.

To request access, data portability, correction and/or deletion, you may submit a verifiable consumer request to us by:

  • Calling us at 1-888-888-4532
  • Submitting an online request here
  • Requesting a submission card in-person at one of our stores.

The verifiable consumer request must:

  • Provide sufficient information that allows us to verify, to a reasonably high degree of certainty, that you are the person about whom we collected personal information. This may include requesting that you provide us with at least two or more pieces of personal information to match against personal information about you that we may or may not maintain and which we have determined to be reliable for the purpose of verification.
  • Describe your request with sufficient detail that allows us to properly understand, evaluate, and respond to it.

We cannot respond to your request or provide you with personal information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the personal information relates to you. Making a verifiable consumer request does not require you to create an account with us. We will only use personal information provided in a verifiable consumer request to verify the requestor’s identity or authority to make the request.

You may only make a verifiable consumer request for access or data portability twice within a 12-month period.

If we deny your request to access/port, correct, or delete your personal information, you may also have the right to appeal the denial of any of these rights depending on your state of residence by submitting a form that will be provided to you if we deny your request. Depending on your data choices, certain services may be limited or unavailable.

RIGHT TO OPT OUT OF SALE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION OR TARGETED ADVERTISING

State Privacy Laws require that we provide transparency about personal information we “sell,” “share” or use for targeted advertising, which, under applicable State Privacy Laws broadly means scenarios in which IKEA has shared personal information with third parties in exchange for valuable consideration. IKEA “sells” or “shares” personal information for the commercial purpose of placing relevant content and advertisements for you on our own websites and apps, as well as other websites, online media channels, and apps. In the preceding 12 months, we have “sold” or “shared” the following categories of personal information to the following categories of third parties:

  • Identifiers, such as unique personal identifier, online identifier, internet protocol address, or other similar identifiers.
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information, including, but not limited to, browsing history, search history, and information regarding a consumer’s interaction with an internet website, application, or advertisement.
  • Geolocation data
  • Inferences drawn from information collected to create a profile about a consumer.
  • Each of these categories of information is “shared” as that term is defined in applicable State Privacy Laws with our advertising networks and partners, marketing agencies, and customer database hosting providers.

You have the right to opt out of these sales or targeted advertising at any time by visiting the Consumer Privacy Request Portal, our Cookie Policy or by clicking on the link Your Privacy Choices (to opt out of cookie-based sales and targeted advertising). You may opt out of non-cookie-based disclosures associated with your email address or other personal information by filling out the form at the Consumer Privacy Request Portal and submitting the required information.

IKEA will also treat Global Privacy Control browser signals as opt-out of sale requests. You can learn more about enabling Global Privacy Control opt-out of sale signals on your browser here. Please note that IKEA does not knowingly sell personal information about consumers under the age of 16.

AUTHORIZED AGENT

Only you, or a person you have designated in writing as your authorized agent, or who is registered with the applicable Secretary of State to act on your behalf, or to whom you have provided power of attorney pursuant to applicable laws, (“Authorized Agent”), may make a verifiable consumer request to access, port, correct, or delete your personal information. You may also make a verifiable consumer request on behalf of your minor child.

If you wish to have an Authorized Agent make a request on your behalf, they will need to provide us with sufficient written proof that you have designated them as your Authorized Agent, and we will still require you to provide sufficient information to allow us to reasonably verify that you are the person about whom we collected personal information.

NON-DISCRIMINATION

You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of your rights provided under State Privacy Laws. Unless permitted by applicable State Privacy Laws, we will not:

  • Deny you services.
  • Charge you different prices or rates for services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties.
  • Provide you a different level or quality of services.
  • Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for services or a different level or quality of services.

However, we may offer you certain financial incentives permitted by applicable law that can result in different prices, rates, or quality levels, including IKEA Family or IKEA Business Network loyalty and discount programs. See Section 13 below.

CALIFORNIA SPECIFIC NOTICES

If you are a California resident, California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits you to request a list of all third parties to which we, during the immediately preceding calendar year, have disclosed certain personally identifiable information for direct marketing purposes.

We are only required to respond to a customer request for this list once during any calendar year. To make such a request you should send a letter to IKEA North America Services, LLC, Attn: California Privacy Rights; 420 Alan Wood Road, Conshohocken, PA 19428. Please be aware that not all information sharing is covered by the California privacy rights requirements and only information sharing that is covered will be included in our response.

We collect personal information for the business and commercial purposes and uses described in Section 3 above.

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you. We retain personal information for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes for which we originally collected it and for other purposes described in this Policy.

Personal Information that we “Share,” “Sell,” or Use for “Targeted Advertising”

We disclose the following categories of personal information to third parties for the purpose of engaging in targeted advertising and other marketing activities, including to expand the reach and effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. These disclosures may be considered “sales” or “sharing” or use of personal information for “targeted advertising” under certain State Privacy Laws.

YOUR NEVADA PRIVACY RIGHTS

Nevada residents have the right to submit a verified request directing us not to sell their personal information. If you are a Nevada resident, and would like to submit such a request, please send your request to infosec.dataprivacy.us@ikea.com or to opt out of data sale visit the Consumer Privacy Request Portal.

VIRGINIA CONSUMER DATA PROTECTION ACT DE-IDENTIFIED DATA DISCLOSURE

IKEA may use de-identified data in some instances. IKEA either maintains such data without attempting to re-identify it or treats such data as personal data subject to applicable State Privacy Laws.
