No, seriously. Kirby games are one of the few franchises that are always churning out something new, but also never forgetting its roots. With Kirby's Return to Dreamland hitting shelves, everyone (especially IGN writers) are raving because this is "Kirby FINALLY returning to his roots".

Kirby rarely LEAVES his roots. The franchise consistently delivers equal amounts of classic Kirby, and intriguing new concepts with every other game. Yes, Kirby's Return to Dreamland is Kirby's first return to his 2-D platforming roots... Unless you count Super Star Ultra (2008)... or Squeak Squad (2006). Oh, or Amazing Mirror and Nightmare in Dreamland (2004 and 2002).

What's that? You're complaining that those games are the same old stuff Nintendo has been carting out for decades? You want something new and different? I suppose it HAS been a while since Nintendo has tried something new with Kirby. Oh, unless you remember Kirby: Mass Attack (2011), or Epic Yarn (2010). Or Canvas Curse (2005).

Seriously, this just proves that gamers feel WAY too entitled nowadays. Leading up to Return to Dreamland's review, IGN's articles (and many others) cried hallelujah, as though they had been wandering in a vast desert for centuries, without nary a classic Kirby platformer to quench their thirst. Now that the review for the game is out, IGN all but directly bashes the game for NOT being something different.

Poor Kirby. He's playing a flawless game, and he still can't win.

I wish the Kirby boards were more active. It's the only board where things like Forum RPGs can find a nice place to start, but no members are active enough to make anything out of them.
