I haven't played a baseball game since like play station 1 and now I'm playing rtts and my left fielder can not catch to save his life what rating should I work on improving to fix this

Work on 'fielding' then 'arm strength' and 'arm accuracy' and throw some 'reaction' in there too.

Make sure you are standing in the baseball icon on the ground when the ball is in the air. You can view it by holding down the right analog stick or R3.

Speed also helps. When you are a slow runner it takes longer to get to the ball. I catch everything with a fielding rating of 50 and a speed of 88. Be patient, and make sure to follow the indicators on screen that help you take the best path to the ball. Nothing wrong with catching it on the hop.
