If you need a reminder, relievers will be required to either face three batters or reach the end of an inning before a pitching change can be made.

I'm not as against pace-of-play changes as I used to be. Last year's playoffs were cool but the 2017 and 2018 playoffs really drove home that optimized baseball is not always entertaining baseball. I think this will be a good change but I don't think the effect will be as big as some expect. I don't buy the argument that it takes out strategy from the game. It will just be a different kind of strategy since managers will have to factor it in when making pitching changes.

I still think that if they are going to make changes to the on-field product then they should prioritize reducing strikeouts. The new rule indirectly addresses that since there will be fewer optimal reliever match-ups, but I'd rather they redefine the strike zone to raise the bottom of the zone. I get that would be a more difficult change but I feel it's long overdue.

I like the 3 batter minimum rule. It is there to combat the one batter specialists. Something that just came into the game in the last 10 or 15 years and honestly, when it did we all hated it and made fun of it. Calling someone a LOOGY was an insult. Shitty right handed pitchers were jokingly called ROOGY which was basically a way of saying he wasn’t good enough to be a MLB pitcher.

So if it weeds out something that we all hated all along, why is it bad? What is the situation where a pitcher is brought in and shouldn’t be able to get through 3 batters?
