Julia Louis-Dreyfus could make history at the 2019 Emmy Awards.
Amid an impressive nine nominations for the final season of Veep, the star and executive producer of the favored HBO series continued her record-breaking run when she picked up an Emmy nod for lead actress in a comedy on Tuesday.
Louis-Dreyfus became the first actress to take home the lead comedy award six times in a row for the same role in 2017. The moment also gave her an eighth total acting win to tie Cloris Leachman’s mark. If Louis-Dreyfus prevails in the category on Sept. 22, she will set the record for most overall acting wins.
Nominated alongside Christina Applegate (Dead to Me), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Louis-Dreyfus, who has 11 total Emmy wins, racked up her 19th acting nomination for the role of Selina Meyer on the seventh and final season of Veep. The star and executive producer of the Emmy darling has won the trophy every year she has been on Veep, which sat out the 2018 awards show after a hiatus during which Louis-Dreyfus sought treatment for breast cancer. Brosnahan took home last year’s prize in the category.
Louis-Dreyfus also has three statuettes for executive producing Veep, and previous acting Emmys for The New Adventures of Old Christine and Seinfeld.
Veep, meanwhile, joins an exclusive list of shows to have series nominations for every season, along with AMC’s Mad Men and, now, HBO’s Game of Thrones. Tuesday’s nominations bring Veep‘s tally to 68 mentions, along with 17 wins. In addition to a best comedy series nod and writing nomination for showrunner David Mandel for the critically acclaimed series finale (titled “Veep”), stars Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky and guest star Peter MacNicol were nominated in the acting categories.
