Peter Largen Named Hearst Transportation Executive Vice President

PUBLISHED ON 12.15.2022

NEW YORK, December 15, 2022 — Hearst announced today that Peter Largen has been named executive vice president and deputy group head of Hearst Transportation, effective immediately. The announcement was made by Steven R. Swartz, president and chief executive officer of Hearst, Richard P. Malloch, Hearst executive vice president for Business Media, and Thomas D. Cross, president and group head of Hearst Transportation.

In this newly created role, Largen will help provide leadership for the market-leading automotive businesses within Hearst Transportation and play a key role in acquisition activities. The group’s automotive data and software companies include Noregon, which helps customers monitor the health and safety of their trucks; MOTOR Information Systems, one of the world’s premier suppliers of automotive data; and Black Book, which provides vehicle pricing, data and analytics.

“Peter is an industry leader with an outstanding track record and has made significant contributions to our automotive businesses for more than a decade,” said Malloch. “I know Peter shares Tom’s commitment to build on the Transportation group’s success and take it to the next stage of growth.”

“Peter and I have worked closely together for a number of years, and he is one of the most talented operating executives I know,” Cross said. “I look forward to working with him in this new role as my partner to drive continued growth across our group.”

Largen joined Hearst in February 2010 as MOTOR’s chief technology officer (CTO) and held the role for almost eight years. As CTO, he led the successful re-platforming of MOTOR’s technology stack and the successful reorganization of MOTOR’s technology, product development and content services groups, setting the stage for significant growth. He was promoted to executive vice president of MOTOR in January 2018 and added responsibility for Black Book operations in July 2021.

“It is an honor to work with the talented teams at Hearst that drive vehicle uptime, facilitate commerce and create intelligence from automotive data,” Largen said. “Each brand has a rich heritage and enormous potential for growth.”

Prior to Hearst, Largen held senior roles in the automotive industry for over two decades. He was chief operating officer for CenterPost Communications, chief marketing officer for MOTOR’s largest customer, CCC Intelligent Solutions, and president and chief operating officer of DriveLogic, a CCC subsidiary. Largen holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.
