Ramit prides himself on giving away 98% of his material for free and charging a premium for the other 2%. As someone who has bought his courses, they're well worth every penny and I highly recommend them to others all the time.

That said, this book and bonus materials are the 98% he gives away for free in book form.

It's a repackaged version of what's been on his website and YouTube channel for years. Not that it's a bad thing, but nothing you haven't heard Ramit discuss at length before.

If you're just discovering Ramit, I urge you to read this book as it's everything he teaches in one place. If you've been with Ramit for a while, it's a great refresher, but no new insights here.

I've known about Ramit Sethi for a few years now. I read his free material on his blog and in his emails, and I've signed up for a few of his courses. I really, really love his stuff. There are some really powerful concepts in it, and what I've applied has generally been awesome.

This book provides an excellent snapshot of some of Ramit's best stuff. For those who actually want to build a business from scratch, the courses Earn1K or Zero To Launch will likely be the obvious next step.

It's true that this content is generally available free on the IWT website. So why buy the book? Because I find that I can read a lot of stuff in my emails and on websites without taking notes or remembering much - the internet is such an endless rabbit hole. But I approach books differently - I like that I can start and finish them, so it feels more achievable to read them thoroughly, take notes, and figure out how to apply what I've learned. If you're similar, or if you just want an easy to read intro to Ramit's stuff, definitely try this book!

Second book by the guy who taught me how to automate my investments and savings. This book is quite short and it seems to mostly exist to promote his website. His website has full in-depth information which he could have put in the book but didn't. His website is a good sources of information though and talks more about how what type of businesses will be lucrative remotely.

("What do they want? What are they frustrated with? What is going on inside their heads?")

Disclaimer: I bought this book, and I've purchased two of his other courses (Finisher Formula and Success Triggers). So I'm familiar with Ramit's content and sales angles. Almost everything in the book has appeared in his emails and on his blog, down to the phrasing. And he redirects you to his website at least 35 times throughout the book.

So this book is about starting your own business, and notionally it works with goods and services but the examples that he uses are *only* services, and almost all of those are info products. As in, online courses, ebooks, items that you can make once and keep selling to people over time (though it seems like you'd have to have an active portal of some sort, like a website or a blog, to keep drawing in new customers). He really doesn't get into the nitty gritty here, but for a lot of people it's email funnels and the occasional livecast to sell products. (Info products, not anything tangible. Possibly some consulting or body building or other service.) It's more of a psychology book (both your psychology as an entrepreneur or wannabe entrepreneur and the psychology of the customer/buyer) than a nuts and bolts book about how to build a business.

Bottom line: you probably won't become a self made millionaire without a virtual business, or a lot of virtual aspects to your business (for example, ridiculously priced Web courses or secret Facebook groups with a monthly admission fee). You can, however, find a business idea, whether it's a side gig or a primary gig, and probably turn it into something that provides a solid side or primary income. But big money requires scaling of the sort that you cannot do without help and technology.

There were a few particularly good tips here with things like upselling or repackaging your content at different price points to get more sales. (As an aside, there's a blogger who sometimes sells a life management bundle of six modules for $500. If she'd be willing to break up the content, I would likely buy a couple of pieces. As it is, I have no use for two of them, and the package price is too high for four modules.) Also that cowtowing to naysayers won't make them buy your product, and not to sell yourself short.

(And now I understand why over the past few years I've ended up getting inundated with sales copy from blogs that I rarely visit but comment on. It was cute when it was just Ramit, but now that there are a half-dozen other pieces of junk mail rolling into my inbox every day, I'm getting tired of it.)

Given that I co-founded a startup 5 years ago, I'm not the target audience for this book. I read it primarily because I enjoy reading anything Ramit writes, and occasionally find a gem that I use myself or send along to others. Example of just fun Ramit-speak:

If you use generic phrases like “feeling motivated” and “I’m going to buckle down,” I can tell you you’re already going to fail.

Fun language aside, I really do agree with the way that he structures the thought process on starting your own online business, including asking you to answer questions such as "What do you already pay for?"

It's also littered with advice *in context* of other stories. Lines like "Focus on what you can control, ignore what you cannot" are important, but he presents them in the context of starting a business, which give them perspective.

Where I think the book falls a little short (and, to be fair, he might make up for this in the bonus material), is in specific examples of businesses. Given how many students he's helped over the years I would almost expect an almanac of "here are 20 totally different online businesses that are all successful; click around on their sites, their sales pages, etc., and just get a sense of what's there." I think most people benefit from that, and I'm sure one of the major benefits of taking his Growth Lab course is that _you're not alone_ and have other people and examples to look at.

Anyway, fun read. Definitely useful if you're thinking about starting a business as a side gig; probably better than anything else currently out there.

In this book, Ramit Sethi talks about the big things, the macro-optimizations, that you can do to change and upgrade your life.

If you are looking for tactics that you can apply right away and that will make an impact on your life tomorrow, this is probably not the right book and I think you're better of with some of Ramit's earlier writings.

This book is more one that makes you think about the bigger things and causes long-term change. This can be a good thing.

It also means it's a bit vague and hand-wavy and does not really deliver what the title promises, in my opinion.

On top of that, if you have been following Ramit for a while, there's very little original content here and there's a lot of promoting his higher ticket items.

So for me, this book was ok, but not much new. If you haven't read any of Ramit's writings, this is a very good introduction to his way of thinking.

This is a conversational, easy to read, high level book about tactics and ways of thinking that would be useful for beginning entrepreneurs looking to build a personal business from the ground up. All the content is basically the same as other stuff Sethi has released in other places. I have actually read the same stories - sometimes word for word - in his email blasts and blog articles. He decided to compile them into an ebook. Good for him! But, as someone who has read a lot of his material, I would have passed on this book if I had known it was all a rehash. Lots of what he has to say is true, smart, inspirational or useful, or some combination of those things. However, if you have already read much of his other material, you can skip this.

I finally read a book from Ramit. I've always heard good things, but I must admit I was turned off by the whole "I will teach you to be rich" moniker. I don't know that I would go out of my way to recommend this book, but it was the right book for this time of my life. As someone who has desires of entrepreneurship, but suffers from a lot of impostor syndrome, this is giving me a nudge to follow up on some passion projects / side hustle ideas. A lot of it for me is countering the narrative that is always running in my head. For instance, that I'm too introverted / not "aggressive" enough to be an entrepreneur. Properly categorized as fear of failing in new ways

Being familiar with Ramit’s contents and emails, most of the book has been told before and I was familiar with the concepts. This does not take away that these are solid and needed if you plan to start an online business or a business based on information (e.g. online courses on sound editing, selling information products,...). What I do enjoy with Ramit is the psychological aspects : remaining resilient, not comparing your achievements, to other people, embracing failure, etc. This book is more like a manual that you keep along your entrepreneur journey than a book you read to relax in your rocking chair next to the cracking fire (although, you could do that too)

Have never heard of Ramit Sethi. Just a couple of days ago, I clicked on his book and started reading-soon was very engrossed! He had so many answers to a lot of my questions that I began writing notes to myself, and shared my excitement with my husband who agreed with me wholehearted. We are both excited to learn how todo all those successful positions he talked about. My husband recently retired and is 76, I retired from working with the US government many years ago and am now a young 88! We are anxious to start making side money and have a few (we think) ideas. Looking forward to learning and really love all the free information we have received so far. Thank you, Ramit, we are grateful readers full of a lot of”new” ideas! Tom and JoAn McCormack

Great Timing!

I have been on Ramit's email list for years and I have always been entertained by his posts. But this particular book came along at exactly the right time for me. The very down-to-earth, practical strategies it offers were exactly what I needed, especially where I am in starting my online business. I took notes and highlighted page after page and not only plan to review my annotations frequently, but am committed to implementing the ideas covered in this book. Thank you, Ramit. I have learned a great deal!

Read all my reviews at: https://brainfartsandbooks.wordpress.com

There is something to be said about books that are short, to the point, and give great content…THEY ARE AWESOME! This is the first book I’ve read by Ramit and apparently many others have read his other books and taken his courses. I love the fact that Ramit gives tons of free content as this is what I strive to do in my business everyday. This book gives you the yeses and the nos when it comes to starting a profitable business. Not just any business where you’re throwing in a bunch of time and just praying that you’ll get some sort of ROI on it, but a business that will be fruitful and grow even after you stop the push marketing on it. Excellent book. I subscribed to his email newsletter right after finishing it and look forward to more from Ramit.

Good Material

This is a really good book on how to build a business.

I am not the target audience - yet. I have not yet taken the plunge and started a side business yet. But I am learning about what it takes to be successful. I learned some lessons from this reading. I’m sure I’ll learn more on a subsequent read-through. And someday when I have a product or service ready to sell, I’ll be better prepared to do so.

This is essentially a condensed version of the 'Build Your Own Business' stuff on Ramit's two sites (IWillTeachYoutoBeRich.com and Growthlab.com). As such its incredibly valuable. Definitely worth the price, though I wouldn't quite evangelize it like I do with his first book (I Will Teach You To Be Rich). At the end of the day though, this book is completely worthless if you are going to just read it and move on to the next book. You need to actually do the things it says.

I was mildly disappointed with this book. I read Ramit's other book I Will Teach you to be Rich and loved it. It greatly helped me into getting out of financial hardship. This one feels more like an advertisement for his website and online courses. Nothing too revolutionary here, but some good advice. It feels to me that this is more aimed at online businesses or bloggers, not very useful for my type of business.

This was ok, I got a few ideas from it for sure, but it did seem similar to other books in the genre of people who started blogs and build businesses around courses they sell and sending emails out to followers, promoting their friends and their websites in the books. Other reviewers have said it is a collection of blog posts kind of from his site, which is what it feels like. If you have a business you might get a few ideas from here.

Ramit tells it like it is as usual and provides links to other resources. Definitely not as complete as the class but it's a book. I found a lot of the sections inspiring and informative but not necessarily as actionable as I would like. Overall, it is a good mindset adjustment and inspiration to starting your own business but it is good to have other resources for specific action steps.

It's a long sales letter, but there's some good in it

I bought the book cos it was a dollar. For that price, I give it a star.

It receives another star for confirming certain beliefs I've started turning into habits.

One more star for having glimpses of inspiration.

I'm proud to announce that I managed to ignore clicking through to his landing page from this book.

Loved loved loved this book.

I love the no-nonsense, unapologetic tone of this book and that it doesn't promise you the earth if you just manifest or some such nonsense. I like real books that tell you it will take work because there are no magic formulae, but that are also encouraging to say you can do it.

This one does both.

Wow. I've been following ramit for a very long time now and have consumed a lot of his content, emails, blogs and courses.

This book is very well arranged and documented with loads of value if you are running an online business. It's huge ROI if you actually go and implement them! Highly recommended!

Great value for e-commerce business

I’ve got a start up myself just in for me to read his book didn’t understand how it should be around later on system is better. The tips on sale so precious. Thank you Ramit! I will be implementing some of your tips, have already registered on your website can you see the email and hope you continue learning from you.

Tells mostly of his successes.

Would have been good to actually hear some success stories from people who purchased his programs. The book had some good ideas, but mostly it was about how much money he makes selling his programs. It does sound like he has been very successful.

Overview of Ramit

If you've never read Sethi, it is *critical* that you read this book.

If you've read Sethi, this is hand-down the best summary of his build-a-business strain of thinking.

Can't wait for him to do this for his other areas of expertise.

Straight forward business advice with a good twist of Ramit's snarkiness. My importantly he offers a ton a valuable, action-oriented content and an over the top generous amount of extra resources.

Clearly builds on his other book, his blog, etc. and repeats a lot of the same themes. It's very mindset and strategy-oriented, which tends to take more repetition than a hit list of quick tactics. All in all, a worthwhile short read.

A good book for anyone starting a business. It covers many things, including how to find customers and how to find a mentor. It also talks about selling, and learning about your customers. Not all the lessons may apply to your situation, but they are worth reading any way.
