I’m stanning big time for Denis and DUNE.
And Timothee! He is the Duke.

I often laugh when an actor shouts (Eddie Redmayne, Jupiter Ascending…) but not this time.
Give The Duke the nod. And while they’re at it don’t forget Austin.
    No eyebrows. Let it happen.

Honestly if queer IS acclaimed i Can see Luca winning director especially if the movie gets cinematography or editing nominations plus hé has a banner year with challengers

For now Sean Baker or Luca for director

I hope Civil War makes it after all.
Very powerful film, I’ll be thinking about it for a while.

Civil War is already forgotten, it’s been for weeks. One of those movies people talk about when it’s released and then forget about. It couldn’t even drag itself to become A24’s biggest release.

Honestly, if Gladiator II is a big hit, then Ridley Scott will absolutely win Best Directing this year.

    Ranked by likelihood of nomination

    1. Sean Baker. Perfectly fits the recent mold for the Cannes BD nominee. It’s his time, no reason to think he’ll miss.
    2. Steve McQueen. McQueen has never made a bad movie, and he’s back with something that sounds very in line with academy tastes.
    3. Denis Villeneuve. This should be safe, but there’s still a chance the branch gatekeeps for being a blockbuster. It could lose hype and go the way of Barbie, Top Gun and the first Dune, with a DGA nod but missing in the end.
    4. Luca Guadagnino (Queer). Like Baker, another auteur that the branch will be itching to reward finally. He’ll be bolstered by Challengers, and I expect Queer to smash the fall fests.
    5. Edward Berger. Berger was probably 6th with AQOTWF, despite being a relative unknown at the time. I think the Academy will gladly reward him on their 2nd chance, as long as the film delivers.

That would be like scripted karma!
