Which soap opera star should write a book?

Later this year Agnes Nixon’s memoir will be released, which I’m sure will have many behind the scenes tidbits about the industry and her shows. Eric Braeden is about to release a book and in the recent past we’ve had books from Kim Zimmer, Susan Lucci, Ellen Holly and Cad McClain and even further back stars like Ruth Warrick and Eileen Fulton released books.

My question for you is: What soap opera performer or creative personality (producer, writer, etc) do you wish would write a biography or even a fiction book?

Here are my choices:

Robin Strasser: First and foremost I think Robin Strasser needs to write a memoir. Her work in this industry is so expansive and covers the majority of the genre. I think she’d have a ton to say about the industry, and more than a few juicy stories to share. I also have no doubt that she would be candid and honest and not be afraid to voice her real feelings about the various behind the scenes happenings she dealt with.

Linda Dano: At this point Dano is mostly retired from the entertainment industry but I think she could write one hell of a memoir about her career.

Maurice Benard: His struggles with depression at well known, but I think would make for a really fascinating book.

Deidre Hall: This living legend is in my opinion probably overdue to write a memoir about her life. Not sure how interesting a writer she would be, but I’m sure she has a lot to say. And if even half the rumors about her personal life are true it would be one interesting book.

Susan Flannery: For years the sources of many rumors about her personal life; all of which she generally managed to avoid addressing during her legendary career. It would be fascinating if she finally opened up now that she’s retired and addressed some of these rumors. Aside from that she has had such a prolific career I’d say it is worth hearing her personal thoughts about.

and the creative side, I really wish Claire Labine had been able to write a memoir about her life before she passed. I would have loved hearing her thoughts about the genre and insight to the decisions made on the shows she worked on.

Robin Strasser! I would love to know of her experiences on Another World, All My Children, One Life To Live and Passions! (:

Kathryn Hays! I want to know all about her years in Oakdale! Her marriage to Glenn Ford. Her t.v. work in the 1960’s on shows like Naked City, Hawaiian Eye, Mannix, The Road West, Star Trek… but mostly: Kim Hughes!

Genie Francis; only if she were totally honest though.

Elizabeth Hubbard! I want to know all about The Doctors and As The World Turns!

Julia Barr would be a great choice! Marcy Walker: I heard she abandoned acting for caring for people work? Susan Lucci, but only if she were completely honest, which I dont’ think she would be…

I wish Helen Gallagher would write her autobiography, not only about Ryan’s Hope but about all of her broadway roles too…

Susan Lucci wrote a memoir after “AMC” was cancelled and I have it sitting on my shelf and have not been able to make it past the introduction. She wrote a very bland, boring book.

I think Genie would be interesting because let’s face it there’s only two people in daytime that have ever hit the pop culture zeitgeist that way. But I agree it would have to be totally honest.

These are all great ideas! I would be most interested in Elizabeth Hubbard, because I think she is very funny and smart. She also seems to have a strong grip on reality.

For the record, I highly recommend Kim Zimmer’s book, it was a very easy read and she was brutally honest about herself and her work. She also was very honest about her thoughts on GL’s cancellation.

Victoria Rowell has written some wonderful books; but I’d love to see a memoir specifically about her acting career.

Oh and Debbi Morgan wrote a book last year or the year before called “The Monkey On My Back” and it is really good. It is about her childhood and her family life.

Erika Slezak had a really good interview on the podcast Brandon’s Buzz which included her going over much of her life. Very interesting. Book-worthy, indeed.

I can imagine that Erika Slezak would write a great book. She just seems so intelligent and good-humored. Now I want to read all these books… even the ones that have not yet been written.

A book from Robin Strasser would be fantastic, I’m sure. I’d pick that up in a heartbeat.

I’d love to read Melissa Reeves’s behind-the-scene account of what happened with Jason Brooks when she quit the show back in the 90s. I imagine the story itself would probably read like a soap opera, but obviously, whatever happened, she has no interest in making that public.

I would bet a Genie Francis book would be frustratingly tactful.

I’d love it if Rosemary Prinz wrote a book about her incredible career; and I know she’d have some interesting stories to tell about Irna Phillips.

I have finished reading Eric Braeden’s autobiography (I’ll Be Damned) and it was very meh for me. For one thing you have to read half the book before you get to Y&R! His political beliefs are completely muddled. One thing that I noticed was that he mentioned almost every single cast member except for Sharon Case – perhaps it was just an oversight but I wonder… We get his version of the Michael Muhney saga, and we learn that Eileen Davidson doesn’t exactly love EB, without any details as to why that is. I definitely agree with him on the things he finds wrong with Y&R!

Susan Luci’s autobiography was so bland I had forgotten that I had even read it! (;

I have the feeling Robin Strasser would write a book that was no holds barred!

I would love to read Helen Gallagher’s autobiography, because I also love theatre and she has had such a fascinating life.

Eva Longoria’s autobiography could be interesting. From Y&R to Desperate Housewives to writing/directing Devious Maids (I actually have never seen), to co-producing Telenova (lasted only one season). I think she’s now directing. It could be a fun read, especially if she opens up about how she got to where she is.

Eva Longoria seems like a pretty interesting character. I hated Isabella on Y&R, but then loved Gabriella on Desperate Housewives. I didn’t realize Eva was writing and directing at Devious Maids, but I did enjoy Telenovela. It was cheesy and silly, but fun. I bet Eva’s autobiography would be fun to read.
