LOL at Brady getting Kristen a gift from Gabi Chic. Not only is he supporting a competitor brand, but also Kristen kind of hates Gabi AND Gabi Chic is a bargain brand. But I guess everything can’t come from Barrons.

It’s kind of ridiculous how Xander’s becoming besotted with Sarah has sapped him of his ability to plot and scheme successfully. On the bright side, he realized having Rolfe give Eric those test results was a pretty dumb idea and tried to stop it, but then he made matters even worse by rushing over and letting Nicole know that he was involved. I get that this puts information in the right hands for a dramatic impact, but it doesn’t really make sense.

The next story turn in the endless saga of who will run DiMera should be for someone to order a psychiatric evaluation for Mr. Shin. He’s appointed like four different CEOs in less than a quarter, which is nuts. It’s also ridiculous because the show invests nothing in actual business storylines, so it’s hard to get too interested in who is running what company. We just wait to be told which character is doing a good or bad job running whatever company, and we’re just supposed to buy it. It’s also crazy because it seems like the only people capable of running Titan are Kate or Victor (sorry, I don’t at all buy that Brady is a good CEO), and the only ones capable of running DiMera are Kate or Stefan, who is currently dead. No one has spent any reasonable length of time working at these companies learning anything. I suppose Lucas, if he sticks around, has a good amount of experience, but Lucas is famously a moron. It would make so much more sense if these business-minded people spent time working at these companies, rather than insisting that they either run them or be unemployed. There’s a world where we could actually be happy for someone who has worked hard and learned a lot to get a CEO job, but no one wants to do that.

Also, I saw online that the adorable girls who play Ariana will no longer be in the role, and they say they’ve been recast. Kind of a bummer, because they’ve been playing the role for a long time and it’s fun seeing them grow in real time. I wonder if the show is going age the character somewhat? That seems like a bad idea, since Gabi and Will still look like they could join the cast of Riverdale, and there’s no need to age your young leads on a show where the average age is probably somewhere around 50.

The only character I feel invested in at the moment is Zander, and that’s a tribute to Paul Telfer’s acting which has been particularly wonderful.

There are entirely too many villains and villainesses on this show and the rooting value is too low for the “heroes” and “heroines”. I find myself not caring all that much about any of the current stories. I find Brady’s behavior particularly annoying and wish Kristen would just go away already. Why can’t Stacey Haiduk stay on the show but only as Susan? She nails Susan perfectly, but she’s just not interesting as Kristen.

I miss Sami and want her back on the show ):

Is the jumping ahead a year just for Halloween or a real storyline that will happen over time?

Yesterday’s episode was a good example of what a poor job this show is doing at drawing human connections between characters. Ben and Stefan were each other’s only friend, but the show has been so busy having Ben deal with this Jordan nonsense and focusing on Julie getting Stefan’s heart that they took no time for Ben to visit Stefan or talk to Gabi before Stefan died. I hope they have some scenes together at some point soon, though the moment has kind of passed. Also, the scenes with Gabi and Will/Sonny would have worked better if they’d picked Will OR Sonny instead of just having them go around in tandem all the time.

I really hate how Rolf or Xander are continuously running around spilling everyone’s secrets. Nicole learning about Sarah’s pregnancy and probably keeping it a secret shows no growth on her end.

Can we talk about the fact that Julie is 76 years old and getting a heart that could go to someone much younger. I looked up heart transplants on the internet because this bothered me so much and apparently the cutoff is 70 years old (unless someone gives you their heart, of course). I don’t know if this has irked anyone else or if it’s just me.

^^Yes, Kayla did say that because Julie was over 70, she couldn’t get on the heart transplant list and would need to be given the heart directly, which is what made everyone so desperate that Lucas was so quick to try to pull the plug on Kate and then everyone was begging Gabi to give Stefan’s heart to Julie even though they hate each other. I was glad that they mentioned that and didn’t try to sidestep it, but I guess it also worked to their advantage by heightening the drama. The funny part was how shocked everyone seemed that Julie would be too old to get on the transplant list.

But even forgetting the transplant list, it should’ve crossed even one person’s mind (someone like Gabi) to give the heart to maybe somebody younger than 40 or 50 or even 60.

Very happy to read that Judi Evans is returning to the show! I hope they give her strong material! I always love it when they bring back Bonnie but I do wish they would write something great for Adrienne! I think Judi has made only 4 appearances so far in 2019…

I saw that the time jump is going to last for at least 6 weeks, beginning around thanksgiving and ending at around New Year’s; I wonder if they will fill in the previous year in flashbacks or how they will do it? It’s definitely something different but it has a whiff of desperation. I have a gut feeling that we are witnessing the end of Days and it will be next of our beloved soaps to bite the dust ):

That’s a fair point, Djoko. Of course I didn’t want Julie to die, but it is kind of a shame not to have someone younger getting an available heart. I’m a little surprised no one mentioned that. Also, this show could deal with fewer heart transplants. After that insane prison story where Jennifer’s heart was removed her body and then re-implanted into her by Dr. Jonas, I feel like they should have backed off of them permanently.

I haven’t read much about the time jump, in part because I like being surprised but also because there doesn’t seem to be a lot of reliable information about it out there, but I was under the impression it was a permanent shift forward in time, with the intervening time to be filled in somewhere along the line if it was relevant. The idea of a time jump that only lasts a few weeks seems silly. Maybe I should read more about it, because I don’t get how that would work. I agree that the whole idea feels desperate, but maybe more from a writing perspective than an overall show perspective. The show has seemed to be doing relatively well in terms of ratings, but is stalling out creatively.

It doesn’t help that the show consistently loses track of its own details. For example, a few episodes ago, it was revealed that the person driving the car that almost hit Ciara was a drunk driver who confessed to it. The very next episode, Hope asked Ciara if they know who was driving the car, and Ciara says no, but they know it wasn’t Jordan. Stuff like that seems frustratingly careless to me. Also, they are getting worse and worse with Xander and Rolfe just revealing things. I couldn’t believe Rolfe told Sarah and Maggie that Xander was giving him a lab at Titan. This is a person who spent decades working for Stefano and would obviously have some degree of discretion.

Michael, it is possible I have misunderstood what I read, it often is the case! (:

Today’s episode sort of plodded along without much going on. “Hope” putting up Stefano’s picture was a hoot though!

I’m happy they’re finally giving Kristian Alfonso some good material. I love it when she plays evil.

Yesterday’s episode was kind of a nice surprise. There were good moments with Eli and Lani, Jennifer and Jack, and Justin and Adrienne. I mean, it was great just to see Adrienne and Justin, especially Adrienne, and I like that they were supposed to actually be out of town instead of just up in their Kiriakis mansion bedroom or something. I’m not that big a Jack/Jennifer fan, especially not after all of Jack’s nonsense this year, but their scenes were relatively enjoyable. It was also cool seeing Kate and Jennifer in those scenes together. We also got a new restaurant set, The Bistro, and it’s nice to see a little variety, though, as my mom kept saying, they could just use Chez Rouge, which they’ve been ignoring for years. Lani also now has a bedroom set that appears to be in the same warehouse-like building as the loft apartment where Hope put up Stefano’s portrait.

Speaking of Hope, I am glad they’re giving her something to do, and so glad it doesn’t involve a clearly temporary love interest.

I hope the show has a plan for Kate beyond just more bouncing back and forth between DiMera and Titan. Her declaration that she’s tired of being underappreciated by Victor and Mr. Shin was promising, but I don’t know if it leads to anything. Brady is being such a moron with this Kristen thing, and honestly should be fired. Kristen is trying to run DiMera, and he moved her into the Kiriakis mansion. And the idea that Kristen is so wounded by Victor’s insults that she needs to be comforted is just absurd.

No spoilers, but I HATE where they are taking Gabi. They’re turning her into a psychopath with no redeeming qualities. And it makes Will and Sonny look even worse because they are not doing anything to stop it.

I don’t currently mind Gabi’s hate-on for Lani, since Stefan’s shooting was pretty much just the straw that broke the camel’s back and she’s been kind of hating Lani for years now, but I don’t know where else things are going. Her saying that Lani was going to leave Eli at the altar was interesting, and if she’s doing what I imagine she will, it’s pretty nuts. But I don’t really know what’s going to happen.

It seems weird that Tony, Anna, and Kate weren’t at Stefan’s funeral, and that Kristen didn’t show up until it was over. How sad to have a DiMera funeral with no actual DiMeras.

Also, Jordan is clearly insane. I’m not sure how Rafe doesn’t see it.
