This is much needed. There is an overabundance of talk shows and reality TV shows, and the current soap landscape is very stale. Not to mention, there is clearly a market for soap operas with a predominantly black cast or black leads; primetime has shown this. I wonder how long will this take to get off the ground and debut. There are so many possibilities as far as black talent goes.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 8, 2024 at 5:24 am #1205770118I am ambivalent for two reasons: I think it is yet another L.A. based soaps and I want New York based soaps to return to the airwaves; and the headwriters concern me. So I am adopting a “wait and see” attitude towards it. Meanwhile I will hope for new New York based soaps to happen and the kind of writing that those shows used to provide us – there is definitely a different vibe between the L.A. shows and the New York shows and I vastly prefer the latter.

That was my first thought when I read the story too.
My dream cast list would include Debbie Morgan, Victoria Rowell, Renee Jones, Darnell Williams and of course an influx of new young talent.
I could easily see Debbie Morgan and Victoria Rowell playing rivals with long-standing animosity between them. Perhaps ex-mother in law and ex-daughter in law? Or they could play a feuding mother and daughter?

Victoria and Debbie are in the same age range, so the mother/daughter angle would never work.

Yeah it would make more sense to have them play sisters of rival families, one wealthy one more working class. They would be the matriarchs. And they would SLAY.

Dude can we just be happy a network is looking to ADD soaps for the first time this century instead of hastening their extinction? I don’t care if they shoot these things in Duluth let’s celebrate we are seeing a new entry in the genre!

Thanks for correcting that. For some reason I always thought Victoria was a lot younger than Debbie Morgan. Either way, they would rock as matriarchs of rival families. Like this shows version of Stephanie and Brooke or Dorian and Vicki.

March 11, 2024 at 9:34 am #1205775068I was so thrilled to see this news. The fact that one of the main networks is adding a new daytime soap feels unbelievable, like something I’m dreaming. I have an optimism about the future of the genre that I haven’t felt in forever.
As for the particulars of this show, it sounds really interesting! I was hoping that Michele Val Jean would come back to GH as part of the new writing team, but I’m super excited to see what develops here. As others have said, there is a ton of great casting potential. I am super excited to see where things go. Victoria Rowell and Debbi Morgan as headliners would be fantastic. Someone also suggested Mishael Morgan as a lead on the show, and I think that would be a really good get for them.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 14, 2024 at 10:24 am #1205778299Anything that puts more daytime dramas on the air is a good thing. I hope it leans less campy than some shows as I think the refusal to evolve has been a hinderance on all of the shows. There is a bigger audience out there than stay at home Moms than soaps were built on in the 60s.
