Deadline broke the news yesterday that former 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord has signed a one-year contract with Days of our Lives to play a character called “Marin,” who is set to debut sometime next year.

I haven’t kept up with McCord since the end of the 2008 90210 reboot, a show that McCord totally owned by the end of its run, and her brief stint on the Dallas reboot as a love interest for Christopher (played by Passions alum Jesse Metcalfe), but she’s very charming and talented, and seems to work pretty steadily. This feels like a big get for DAYS, which has been floundering creatively for some time now but still seems capable of attracting some pretty big names. (I am still stunned they got Loretta Devine to do Beyond Salem Chapter 2 and then a few episodes of the mothership show during the arc that was essentially Beyond Salem Chapter 3.) I’m super excited for her to show up and to see what her character is all about.

The article describes “Marin” as a “fascinating and complicated woman who is devastatingly beautiful, almost angelic in her outward appearance. The desire of many but her heart belongs to only one man who continues to push her away for her own good.” Based on the significance of this casting and her looks/age, there’s a lot of speculation that she will be an Abigail recast, but I find that kind of hard to believe. For one thing, the description doesn’t really fit, and for another, the show seemed uninterested in having an Abigail who wasn’t going to trick around for the relative long term. I guess we’ll see what happens!
