‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Untucked’ season 6 episode 9 recap: ‘Rosemarie’s Baby Shower: The Rusical’

RuPaul‘s Drag Race All Stars” continued its 9th season on Friday, July 5 with the ninth episode featuring returning queens from seasons past. In the sister series “Untucked,” now in its 6th “All Stars” season, the queens throw back a cocktail and dish the dirt backstage on the latest challenge. Check out our recap of “Untucked” episode 9 below.

This week the queens sang and dance their way through the seasonal rusical in a psychological thriller spoof of horror film classics. Prior to the judges announcing the official top two performers of the week that would earn two coveted Beautiful Benefactress Badges, the queens gathered backstage to discuss the week and their chances at winning and who the winners might gift their giveaway badges to.

Of all the queens, Jorgeous was the most enthusiastic about the critiques that everyone received, but especially her own because on her original season she placed in the bottom during this challenge. Similarly, Shannel was the one queen participating in a rusical challenge for the very first time. In that regard, both of them had a sort of redemption on the line. The queens thought that Vanessa Vanjie Mateo for her “star power” and Angeria Paris VanMichaels for a show stopping runway look might be in the running for the win as well.

Due to their shared success in this challenge, all of the queens believed that there was something unique about this season in how supportive they’ve been of each other. In a lot of ways, the charitable aspect of the competition this season matched the energy that they felt everyone was bringing to the competition each week. Vanjie had an emotional moment on the Main Stage in front of RuPaul Charles, expressing her gratitude for everything that the queens receive in their careers because of their time on the show. In the Untucked Lounge, Vanjie and Angeria received video messages from her mom and parents, respectively.

Later when guest judge Kristine W visited back stage, the queens thanked her for all of the support she’s given the queer community throughout her career. Kristine explained that her “passion started very young” because of her proximity to gay men through her mother’s friendships and witnessing what they went through simply to own their own identity in the face of hate. She said that drag is “magic” and that’s what draws her in to it and said that in this challenge specifically they created something worthy of being on Broadway that she and they can be proud of.

When the conversation returned to the reality that four more badges would be claimed, Roxxxy Andrews and Plastique Tiara knew that without a win of their own that they would not be receiving any as a gift because it would be “too much to catch up” for any of the others. Most of the queens changed outfits, half-expecting to possibly be put in the lip sync position, but in the end it was Jorgeous and Shannel who earned that opportunity. After their battle was declared a tie, the two winners made the decision to gift their second badges to each other, keeping the four badges of the week in the hands of two people. That decision meant Jorgeous rose to the leading position alongside Roxxxy and Plastique, and Shannel rose from zero to two, placing her as equal to the totals of Vanjie, Gottmik and Nina West.
