Will Lady Gaga get the most Grammy nominations?

Lady Gaga is, like it or not, the biggest pop star in the world today, and we are likely to hear her name called out a number of times when Grammy nominations are announced Dec. 1. She could easily lead all contenders if she can convert all her category submissions into bids. And that is a distinct possibility.

Last year, the recording academy showered her with five Grammy nominations, including in the big three categories of Album of the Year (“The Fame”) and Record of the Year and Song of the Year both for “Poker Face.” She lost those races, settling for wins for Best Electronic/Dance Album (“The Fame”) and Best Dance Recording (“Poker Face”).

This year, she is coming off a sensational run of success at recent music awards, including numerous nominations and wins from the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards and the American Music Awards.

Lady Gaga has been quite savvy about her Grammy entries, carefully choosing her categories and limiting her submissions to her best shots at nominations. And she has strategically shifted her biggest hits from Dance to Pop. She has submitted herself in the following eight categories:

Album of the Year – “The Fame Monster”
Record of the Year – “Bad Romance”
Song of the Year – “Bad Romance” (as songwriter with co-writer RedOne)
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance – “Bad Romance”
Best Pop Album – “The Fame Monster”
Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals – “Telephone” (with Beyonce)
Best Dance Recording – “Dance in the Dark”
Best Short Form Music Video – “Bad Romance”
Best Short Form Music Video – “Video Phone” (with Beyonce)
