Release GOG Galaxy 2.0 for Linux
Why is gog telling linux users to sit at the back of the bus?
I joined GOG in 2017 or wtv, 200+ games and counting and there's still no Linux installer! How hard is it? Hire the right nerd and he'll do it in a day!
I'll never switch to gog from steam for this exact reason: no Linux support. So GOG, if you want my money, you know what you've got to do.
I'm surprised this still isn't a thing yet, GoG seems like the exact kind of people who WOULD support a native linux version of the store because it just makes sense
We are asking for years...
Yes, Itch.io has a linux native installer, Valve has SteamDeck and is doing a lot for linux (I guess).
And GOG do it. I'm sure you will rewarded for that.
Still waiting on GOG to release Galaxy on Linux. Steam is on Linux and Valve is doing so much to push the gaming ecosystem forward on Linux. I hope GOG embraces Linux as well.
I hope thre is a gog galaxy for linux in the future, and work as good as steam does.
I hope they will release it in the future…
i want gog galaxy for linux.
Pretty please release it for Linux. Linux is an open source software with a community of people who value and prioritize a client-first ideology that puts the control and the freedom of their computer in their own hands rather than that of a monopolistic company. GOG and Linux go together like bread and butter, and I would be willing to bet that even if the community of GOG-Linux users isn't the majority right now, it may be a great pillar of your userbase in the future. Support for GOG Galaxy on Linux would be a valuable and greatly appreciated investment, ESPECIALLY if it has built in compatibility layer support.
Not yet?
Well we will continue expending our money in other stores.
Happy new year!

I want to get rid of Win 11 and switch to Linux Mint. Please release a GOG client for Linux. It's also possible on Steam.
I have been using Linux part-time for years, probably a decade and a half at this point. With the impending EoL of Win10 in Oct 2025, and the recent Win11+Copilot+Recall announcement, I have begun fully transitioning away from Windows, towards Linux as my full-time OS. With this recent announcement of the AI-powered spyware that Microsoft is calling Copilot+/Recall, I suspect a LOT of users will be making the same transition. We as users need a native GOG app to help streamline this transition, and you need one to translate what would become lost sales into continued profits.
strahd017 & windwaker below me both make very good points in their comments. It is not only time for this to happen to be ahead of the curve and prepared for what's to come (an eventuality at this point), but doing so would be relatively straightforward.
Listen to your userbase. Nearly 40k voices in the other wishlist. As the recent Microsoft news spreads, and people become aware of its privacy and security implications, I predict that you will see that number rise sharply.
I am not buying any games on GOG right know. Since I use Linux, I buy all games on Steam as they have native client.
We are beeing waiting already for 10 years a GOG for linux. It's a shame! It is unbearable that linux users are not heared, taken in consideration.
GOG Galaxy is already written in QT. Just take the open-source code from Lutris and put that in Galaxy for Linux and you have a working client. FLATPAK and SNAP it, no need for having distro-based builds these days.
Even the Ext4 FileSystem can be easily made to be case-insensitive to make windows binaries work flawlessly.
You may as well come to the dark side. I foresee a SteamOS Desktop Edition before October 2025, Valve is doing a lot for Linux behind the scenes, helping with Nvidia and AMD drivers and other things that you can find with a simple Google search.
If Windows 12 is crap (which I am sure it will be), Windows 10 dies and SteamOS releases, a lot of users will move to SteamOS, that 4% Linux user base will sharply increase and GOG will be missing out without a native App, then you'll rush to ship something, it will be hot garbage, and you'll lose more users.
2025 is the year of Linux if Valve wants it to be, and it seems like they want it to be.
Be ready GOG.

As I'm currently testing out Linux and consider switching entirely I would also like to see Galaxy for Linux, so I can minimize steam usage and have cloud sync and everything. Some games have a lot of history and losing 100h+ of gameplay is a real drawback, if cloud sync doesn't work.

Lutis is bloated shit!, please make this happen , thank you.

Honestly? It's 2024. Linux with Proton modules (Glorius Eggroll) via ProtonQt is a reality since the last three years. You are so lazy, still relying on Lutris via Wine bottles (the worst option nowadays) that it seems that a native client just like Valve made it, it's difficult to happen. And you aren't even named EA which is the worst of the worst in all Linux gamers black lists because their installer client is designed with ant-Linux flaws, deliberately made to be crapware. WTF guys, seriously.
The demand is there, please give us GoG Galaxy for linux.

I want to buy games from you and not on Steam
You do save games from the fallout. Linux saves operating systems from the fallout - Make this perfect match finally happen and wouldn't buy my games anywhere else anymore - I swear to god, but pleeeeeeease! ;)
GoG Galaxy would certainly do wonders for Linux, especially as I have been wanting to move on over to Linux Mint fulltime myself and would love to have a client with the game I bought through such a wonderful platform.
+1 Have not been buying on GOG for this reason and will keep it that way. There is a Mac version (for whatever reason, like anyone played on Mac), so obviously Galaxy is developed with multi platform in mind.
+1 here. I don't buy on GOG anymore, and won't until there's a Linux Galaxy client!
Playing GOG with linux support is usually extremely easy, but it lacks achievements and cloud sync, two vital features for a lot of gamers. It is true that it is quite easy to install GOG Galaxy via Lutris, one click to install and it works flawlessly. BUT it always uses the wine emulation layer even for games that have native linux support, which is such a pitty. Gaming on linux is increasing especially since the release of the Steamdeck. Please consider to release a native linux build, this is my number one wish of all wishes to GOG.

For some difficult-to-troubleshoot reason, my Lutris doesn't like GOG so I would love a standalone GOG Galaxy launcher!
i would love a linux launcher, we need something to cover our cloud saves. While heroic kind of work, it's not permanent solution.
Please add GOG Galaxy for us to play all the games on a Linux platform. I want to play World of Xeen (and others) while only using Mint Linux (Debian-based).
Thanks Dev's for listening!
+1 would love to have gog galaxy on my linux system
So, releasing GOG Galaxy for Linux is really a moot point - there's no need to do it at all, as Steam compatibility handles everything mostly flawlessly, without needing to use any other emulation tools like Lutris.
I installed and ran witcher III using Gog Galaxy as effortlessly as doing it under windows.
It's also super trivial to just add the installed game to Steam, I just browsed to:
".steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/2365615429/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/GOG Galaxy/Games/The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY/bin/x64_dx12/witcher3.exe"
Fairly sure the game folder could be moved anywhere and ran too.
Having said all of the below, I reckon you can completely ignore installing Gog Galaxy, which isn't very good anyway, and just download the game install files via your account.
Then use Steam compatibility to install them, then once installed, figure out where the game launchers are installed, add them, select compatibility, rename the shortcut, add icons etc. - job done.
See my post below about getting Gog Galaxy working in Steam.
So, installed two small games - Sid Meirs Pirates and Braid.
Both worked fine.
Exiting Braid resulted in Gog Galaxy graphical glitches after, quick restart, fine again.
Whether it can launch more modern titles, not sure - will try Witcher 3.
However, seems fairly obvious to me that once you've installed a game with Gog Galaxy, you could then add it to Steam as a "Non Steam Game" and launch from there instead.
Saves having to mess about with other options - I've tried Lutris in the past and whilst I'm amazed at the community effort behind it, I've found it to be not so nice to work with and very hit and miss.
Possible Easy solution - if you have steam!
It's TRIVIAL to install Gog Galaxy using Steam - and it works 100% - do the games installed via it work? No idea yet, will let you know or perhaps someone else can try...
Download the Gog Galaxy installer, then in Steam, Games -> Add Non-Steam game to my Library.
Select the installer file and add it.
Once added, ensure you set compatibility - find the installer in your library - just search for Gog, right click -> properties -> Compatability.
Check the box - same way you do for any game that requires it in steam for Linux.
Launch it. (hit Play)
It should install just fine and then launch, login - boom, done!
I did try and figure out exactly _where_ it installs the files, it's somewhere in ".steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/" - but I wasn't sure exactly what executable to try.
Anyway, I took a chance, exited Gog Galaxy and launched the installer again from Steam - it seems to be able to detect it's already installed and launches Gog Galaxy.
I'll admit, I have NO idea what will happen when a game is installed.
Going to try now, so still a few things to figure out, but heck, the GOG Galaxy client just _WORKS_ via steam perfectly - on my PC anyway, can't see why it won't work on any PC that can run Games under Steam for Linux.

It does work with wine seamlessly ztjuh. At least Linux Mint 21.3 with wine 9.0. Just today I wanted to try Gwent so I gave it a try and it worked out of the box through Galaxy. But the fact that I had to use Virtualbox with win guest system to even download the installer baffles me. I mean, I know it's not linux native but why make it so hard to even download it? Anyway, + 100 for linux native.
Linux support alone would be awesome to access games running natively. Proton (or similar tool) integration to run Windows games under Linux would be amazing!
