The research firm Circana has publicly released three lists that rank the top 10 games in the US in terms of "active users" for the week ending on June 8. These lists are broken down by platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam respectively. Overall, they show a strong performance for Call of Duty and Fortnite, as well as a surge for Destiny 2 thanks to the release of The Final Shape.
Since these lists feature ongoing or live games that have commanded a huge audience for years, it's difficult for a new game to break in. That said, recent releases like MultiVersus and XDefiant remain in the top 10 on console, though XDefiant fell out of the top 5, so we'll have to see if it continues to retain its playerbase. It's also worth noting that Dead by Daylight returned to the top 10 on Steam, after developer Behavior Interactive announced layoffs earlier this month.
Circana executive director Mat Piscatella noted in a follow-up post that the poker-themed roguelite Balatro barely missed the top 10, coming in at number 11 on Steam. He also noted that Dark and Darker has been gathering players after its return to Steam; it had previously been pulled from the storefront due to a legal dispute.
